What Trackers Offer - FileSharing Talk. Torrent News, Torrent Sites and the latest Scoops. Tutorial: Start Your Own Headless Torrent Seedbox Server For Less Than $9 Per Month! If you don’t have a server yet, don’t worry. Unless you are a very heavy-duty user, you probably won’t need a dedicated server. If you are unsure, go with a VPS. I don’t have any service provider recommendations at the moment, but I assure you there are plenty.

Just do some research on torrent-friendly ones. I assume that you have obtained your server credentials (username and password) by now. First we are going to install a bunch of prerequisite software packages that we will need during the course of this tutorial. Yum -y install wget bzip2 which gcc gcc-c++ make openssl-devel pkgconfig curl-devel perl-XML-Parser perl-libwww-perl gettext yum -y upgrade This installation might take a minute or two, depending on your server specs and connection speed.

The Hollywood group is therefore one of the main facilitators of the “six strikes” copyright alerts plan that will begin in the coming year.

The main goal of this plan is to educate members of the public about piracy, and point them to legal sources. However, new data uncovered by TorrentFreak shows that the MPAA might want to start in-house, as plenty of copyrighted material is being shared by employees of major Hollywood studios. With help from BitTorrent monitoring company Scaneye we found that BitTorrent piracy is rampant in Hollywood.Let’s take a look at some of the files these Hollywood studios are sharing, starting with Paramount Pictures. Keep in mind that what we show here is just a small fraction of the files that are actually being shared. It’s the tip of the iceberg.Static IP-addresses registered to Paramount were associated (e.g.) with the downloading of a wide variety of content as can be seen below.

At Warner Bros. Scene Group List. Researchers find Megaupload shutdown hurt box office revenues, despite gains for blockbusters. We’ve heard this one before, over and over again: pirates are the biggest spenders.

Researchers find Megaupload shutdown hurt box office revenues, despite gains for blockbusters

It therefore shouldn’t surprise too many people to learn that shutting down Megaupload earlier this year had a negative effect on box office revenues. The latest finding comes from a paper titled “Piracy and Movie Revenues: Evidence from Megaupload” (via TorrentFreak) from last month, conducted by from Munich School of Management (LMU) and the Copenhagen Business School (CBS). Here’s the abstract: In this paper we make use of a quasi-experiment in the market for illegal downloading to study movie box office revenues. Exogenous variation comes from the unexpected shutdown of the popular file hosting platform Megaupload.com on January 19, 2012. The study analyzed weekly data from 1,344 movies in 49 countries over a five-year period.

This Time From HADOPI. We've pointed out that a whole series of studies have all suggested that the biggest infringers of content online also tend to be the best customers of content, rather than just "freeloaders" who refuse to pay for content.

Critics of these studies brush them off (without any evidence) by simply saying if that were true, then sales of content wouldn't have dropped so much in the music industry (other industries, it should be noted, have not seen such a drop-off). But that's misunderstanding (or misapplying) basic statistics. No one is saying that this means that file sharing automatically leads to more sales. But it does suggest that treating those people as just "freeloaders who just want stuff for free" is absolutely the wrong response. It shows that these people are willing to pay money if they're given a good reason to buy. From a strategic standpoint, this impacts how one responds to increased "piracy.
