DIY Projects & DIY Crafts – FP DIY Blog Category | Free People Blog | Page 4. DIY. I love having strands of Christmas lights in my room all year round. They give my room a warm golden glow that takes the attention away from the chaotic mess on my floor. But I also wanted to add a little floral flair to my lights, so I came up with this simple 3step mini-project below... *Notes and tips: 1) The strand of lights I bought is actually a little bit daintier and more delicate-looking than the standard Christmas lights. I got mine from Michael's. 2) Flipping the flower inside out is optional. I like it inside out because it makes the flowers look more like little buds. 3) If you're worried about the flowers falling off, you can add a little bit of double-sided tape to the light strands so that the flowers will stick onto them.

I just had a red garland lying around so I used what I had, but I think you could make some really gorgeous light garlands if you used flowers of different sizes, textures, or colours (flowers made out of tulle or chiffon would be amazing!). -laura :) Tried That. I wanted to create some kind of little momento using some blooms from my mom's funeral. I figured it was as good a time as any to try my hand at pressing flowers. After searching around, I landed on a microwave technique that puts to use materials most of us already have around - cardboard, paper towels, printer paper, and rubberbands. I found Modest Maven's tutorial for drying out the flowers the easiest to follow. In the end, I didn't deconstruct them like she did. Honestly, I still feel a little conflicted about the whole thing. Read on for a couple more pictures of them on my gallery wall.

No-sew bow tie toppers. Miniature bow ties, the perfect tiny toppers for any sort of sweet. I designed this DIY to share at Style Me Pretty yesterday. It turned out to be one of the easiest projects ever. Not even one ounce of sewing involved! PS. Blessings. Easy Fish. This page shows you how to weave an easy fish using strips of paper or ribbon. This project is simple if you remember that weaving involves threading the material in an over-and-under pattern. Cut two strips of paper or get two strips of ribbon. In this sample, the strip was ½" wide and 11" long. Fold the strips in half. {extra}ordinary wonders: DIY: Sunprints. When I was home on the Cape I really enjoyed having some time to be creative. One of the 'projects' I brought was a Sunprints kit. Creating them is really very simple, and the results are beautiful and sometimes unexpected. You can easily create artwork for your home this way. The full how-to is after the jump, and if you want to see more process photos and results check out my Pinterest board.Step 1: Lay Sunprints paper on larger piece of cardboard for easy carrying.

I didn't do this in the beginning, but it makes the process much easier.Step 2: Position object on sun print paper in the layout you want.Step 3: Move Sunprints paper into direct sunlight. If you want the most clear results try to do this during the middle when the sun is directly above. Step 4: Wait several minutes until the paper exposes. Step 6: Lay flat to dry and you're done! Try using lots of different materials - flowers, shells, rubber bands, leaves, and petals all make great designs but you can use anything. DIY Drink Umbrellas. Jul 19 by Jenny Batt Another adventure in sprucing up a few party supplies you probably already have, or do you? When I was grabbing some paper lanterns the other day I found these gigantic paper drink umbrellas.

I’ve never been a fan of the patterned papers on the umbrellas, am I the only one who ever wonders why can’t they just make something plain for once, so I figured fringe would cover them up nicely. You see fringe has been on my mind a lot lately and I just can’t quit. I made some tiny bits of fringe to fix up these boring umbrellas and make them spunky again. You will need: large drink umbrellas scissors tissue paper double stick tape Keep your tissue paper folded and cut 1/2 to 3/4 inch strips off the end. Pop this in a iced beverage and enjoy. Project Pretty: DIY Fabric Boxes & a Link Party! Last week I got the itch. Not a rash. An itch to do something. To DIY. To project. And so I challenged myself along with you, to do some organizing and beautifying. I am pretty gosh darn excited about the outcome of my project! We have this fabulous piece of Craigslist furniture sitting in our playroom. Nope, for this project I didn't paint it, but that is next on the list. Yep, a pair of boxes. Not so much. Here are some of the supplies I used to spruce them up a bit: FabricCraft Knife or ScissorsSpray AdhesiveYard StickCotton CordGrommetsEmpty Boxes I have a bit of a color scheme going in the playroom which is green and turquoise, so to cover the boxes I stuck with fabric in those colors.

The boxes I selected were equal size and 15" squares {a super sized bin!}. I used the yard stick to measure A LOT and draw straight lines on the back side of the fabric for all of my cuts: Then I cut two long strips of fabric to wrap along the inside. So now the inside of my box was completely covered: Make Your Own House Stamp. I love making my own prints, especially with stamps! Decoupage.
