I created this website as a fun way to look at correlations and to think about data. Empirical research is interesting, and I love to wonder about how variables work together. The charts on this site aren't meant to imply causation nor are they meant to create a distrust for research or even correlative data. Logos. Someone we MUST STOP! Things to fight on. TWITS. Everything You Need To Know About The End Of Net Neutrality

That was the reaction from consumer advocates and some websites after the Federal Communications Commission announced new rules governing Internet service on Thursday. The rules effectively put an end to net neutrality, or the idea that all web traffic should be treated equally. "Definitely, consumers are the losers," said Todd O'Boyle, a program director at Common Cause, a left-leaning public interest lobbying group. Hacking News Archives - Freedom Hacker.

Pew Future of the Internet Survey Report: Experts Predict Internet's Impact by 2025

Internet experts and highly engaged netizens participated in answering an eight-question survey fielded by Elon University and the Pew Internet Project from late November 2013 through early January 2014. One of the survey questions asked respondents to share their answer to the following query: Make your prediction about the role of the Internet in people's lives in 2025 and the impact it will have on social, economic, and political processes. Good and/or bad, what do you expect to be the most significant overall impacts of our uses of the Internet on humanity between now and 2025? Blue Cat's Graphics » Firefox Themes. Slothsanctuary. They traveled to Costa Rica to introduce Judy to his family and to his beloved country. Falling in love with the wild Caribbean coast they bought 320 acres of land along the Estrella River near Penshurt, about 30 kilometers south of the port city of Limón. Their family and friends thought they were crazy to buy swampland, but Judy and Luis saw the potential of their little piece of paradise. In 1975 they had their land declared a “Privately-owned Biological Reserve” with the Costa Rican government.

Pain, Pus and Poison: The Search For Modern Medicines

This new BBC series tells of how our search to cure ourselves of anything from the most common, to the most life threatening of ailments, has led to a profound understanding of chemistry, and how we discovered some of the most widely used products on the planet – pharmaceuticals. It’s a story of revelation and genius, and a story that ultimately has transformed – and saved - the lives of millions of people across the planet, lives that are now lived longer and healthier than at any time in our history. Mysterious Energy Ribbon at Solar System's Edge a 'Cosmic Roadmap' A strange ribbon of energy and particles at the edge of the solar system first spotted by a NASA spacecraft appears to serve as a sort of "roadmap in the sky" for the interstellar magnetic field, scientists say.

Mysterious Energy Ribbon at Solar System's Edge a 'Cosmic Roadmap'

By comparing ground-based studies and in-space observations of solar system's mysterious energy ribbon, which was first discovered by NASA's Interstellar Boundary Explorer (IBEX) in 2009, scientists are learning more details about the conditions at the solar system's edge. The study also sheds light into the sun's environment protects the solar system from high-energy cosmic rays. [Photos and Images from NASA's IBEX Spacecraft]

Rare Particle Find May Cast Doubt on Popular Physics Theory

Physicists from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in Switzerland have measured a particular type of particle transformation for the first time, and found that it happens just about as often as predicted by the dominant theory of particle physics, called the Standard Model. The measurement is just preliminary — the researchers haven't collected enough data to be positive what they're seeing isn't just a random occurrence. Still, the fact that the initial observations correspond so well with the Standard Model predictions isn't a hopeful sign for what scientists call "new physics," such as new particles not predicted by the Standard Model. The strangeness of the world of the very small that allows a particle to be in two states at once may extend to larger scales, two new studies reveal. If the research proves true, that would bolster the validity of a thought experiment suggesting a cat can be both alive and dead at the same time. The idea, called Schrödinger's Cat after the physicist,Erwin Schrödinger, who proposed it in 1935, goes like this: Put a cat in a box with a vial of poison gas. The vial opens when a tiny piece of radioactive metal emits an alpha particle (the nucleus of a helium atom) as it decays.
