Although this genre of music originated in Italy during the early to mid-80s, that hasn’t stopped it from being exported all over the globe and being used to inspire some of today’s biggest hits. With the ZYX record label being the main purveyors of the movement, Italo disco is, in part, the result of a licensing and marketing plan to put music from Italy on to a global platform. Though it didn’t necessarily go as global as they ad hoped, it was certainly successful and this genre of music played as an important step in the evolution of dance/electronic music and pop music alike today, and it is still inspiring many of today’s underground and popular artists like Daft Punk, Little Boots, Glass Candy and even Madonna.
