Bent (band) Bent are an electronica act from Nottingham in England, consisting of Neil "Nail" Tolliday and Simon Mills. They gained critical acclaim from their debut album Programmed to Love in 2000. The duo were initially noted for their ability to create their own mischievous style of recordings by sampling their private record collections (which they have themselves referred to as "dodgy"). On the 2003 single "Magic Love" they sampled a Toni Tennille performance. Nana Mouskouri is one of the artists they have sampled the most so far. Another notably sampled artist is the Canadian singer Anne Murray, whose song "Just Bidin' My Time" is heavily used for the lyrics of "Leavin' Me". With the release of 2004's Ariels, Bent took a sharp turn into live-based recording using predominantly original material. 2006's Intercept!

Annie (Norwegian singer) After completing secondary school, Annie started DJing in Bergen, where she met house producer and soon-to-be boyfriend Tore Kroknes. In 1999, Annie and Kroknes released the single "The Greatest Hit", which sold out in two days and became popular in Norwegian and British nightclubs. Before Annie and Kroknes could release an album, Kroknes died from a congenital heart defect in 2001.
Annie went on to sign a record deal with Britain's 679 Recordings in 2003, releasing her debut album Anniemal in 2004, for which she received widespread critical acclaim and several Norwegian music awards. Annie has been praised for her unique, "indie" style of electropop and synthpop music and has been described as "a pop singer with credibility, an indie artist with one eye on the dancefloor",[3] and "the Kylie it's cool to like".[4] Annie describes her music as "pop with strange edges". Kroknes was working on a track, but did not know what to do with it, so he asked Annie for help.[3] In 1999, Mikal Tellé, Annie's friend and neighbour, issued a limited edition 7-inch single of "The Greatest Hit" under his label Tellé Records.[1][4] The release sold out in two days, and track became an underground hit in nightclubs in Norway and Britain, resulting in offers for record deals.[1] After seeing the interest that "The Greatest Hit" generated, Annie decided to turn her project into a studio album.[3] Critical reception[edit] "The Greatest Hit" received little attention when released as a single, but garnered critical acclaim when Anniemal was released in 2004.
