Community building. Community building is a field of practices directed toward the creation or enhancement of community among individuals within a regional area (such as a neighborhood) or with a common interest. It is sometimes encompassed under the field of community development. A wide variety of practices can be utilized for community building, ranging from simple events like potlucks and small book clubs, to larger–scale efforts such as mass festivals and building construction projects that involve local participants rather than outside contractors.

Activists engaged in community building efforts in industrialized nations see the apparent loss of community in these societies as a key cause of social disintegration and the emergence of many harmful behaviors. They may see building community as a means to increase social justice, individual well-being and reduce negative impacts of otherwise disconnected individuals. Re-Building[edit] While building a community, beliefs are at the base of that community. Web of trust. In cryptography, a web of trust is a concept used in PGP, GnuPG, and other OpenPGP-compatible systems to establish the authenticity of the binding between a public key and its owner. Its decentralized trust model is an alternative to the centralized trust model of a public key infrastructure (PKI), which relies exclusively on a certificate authority (or a hierarchy of such).

As with computer networks, there are many independent webs of trust, and any user (through their identity certificate) can be a part of, and a link between, multiple webs. The web of trust concept was first put forth by PGP creator Phil Zimmermann in 1992 in the manual for PGP version 2.0: As time goes on, you will accumulate keys from other people that you may want to designate as trusted introducers. Everyone else will each choose their own trusted introducers. Operation of a web of trust[edit] You encrypt your information with the recipients' public key, and only their private key will decrypt it.

Online communities have become a very popular way of interaction between people who either have known each other in real life or met online. The most common forms people communicate are through chat rooms, forums, or discussion boards.

A new type of community[edit] The idea of a community is not a new concept. Some signs of community are: Content: articles, information, and news about a topic of interest to a group of people.Forums or newsgroups and email: so that community members can communicate in delayed fashion.Chat and instant messaging: so that community members can communicate more immediately.[4] Development[edit] There is a set of values to consider when developing an online community. Appeal of Online Communities - IncrediBlogger. People have formed communities on the internet since it was formed, but what had been established in the mid nineties still applies to the communities formed today. Armstrong and Hagel in 1995 made an observation of how online communities are divided according to what type of experience the users involved are looking for and provide an overview on the different types of online community and how they provide value to the consumer.

Communities of transaction facilitate the buying and selling of goods and services and provide information about these transactions. Participants are encouraged to interact to make informed purchase decisions. This form of community is commonly associated with the comments sections of sites like Amazon and customer rating systems. Communities of interest bring together participants who interact extensively about specific topics of interest. Communities of fantasy allow participants to create new personalities, environments, or stories of fantasy.
