For Mozilla, WebAPI will be a critical component of its battle against closed OS environments such as iOS, Windows and Android, and enables developers to write one application and run it anywhere. It is unclear how its rivals will react to this proposal, which is quite apparently a building block of Boot-to-Gecko, and whether they will support WebAPI. Mozilla said that it will be developing WebAPIs that are smartphone and tablet based initially:
