Minsu Kim's Living Food project builds on developments in synthetic biology to propose meals that behave like living creatures. "Synthetic biotech has already started to create artificial life in organic forms," says the designer, citing a swimming artificial jellyfish made of heart cells by researchers at Caltech and Harvard University. "Breathing life into artificial digestible forms in not merely a fantasy. " In the Design Interactions department of the Royal College of Art's graduate exhibition this week Minsu Kim presents three dishes, each exhibiting a different behaviour: wriggling around, waving tentacles or puffing up as though breathing.

"This project explores new culinary experiences through developments in synthetic biology, and finds its lineage in haute cuisine and molecular gastronomy," the designer adds. The shoes were presented today at Paris Fashion Week during Iris van Herpen's couture show. Koolhaas, founder of shoe brand United Nude, worked with van Herpen to create a dozen pairs of shoes for the Wilderness Embodied show. "Iris is very dramatic with her concepts and the shapes she wanted were only possible with 3D printing - they are almost like a sculpture on your feet, mimicking nature," said Koolhaas. "For me, fashion has always been about setting your own boundaries and making a statement," said van Herpen.

"This time around, Rem and I wanted to create something that echoed the beauty and wilderness of the natural world, so we decided to use the technological capabilities of 3D printing to bring this concept to life through a pair of shoes. Thanks to a maglev-style mechanism, the large aircraft is able to pick up passengers inside the small SkyLink trains while both the plane and trains are in motion, eliminating the possibility of congestion at large airports and on highways. Unlike the Clip-Air—which is also a modular plane system—the Horizon System has no pilot, which means it could be the largest drone ever conceived. Passengers would enter the Horizon System through their local SkyStation. After getting on board a SkyLink pod and reaching the Airstrip, passengers are picked up by the SkyShip.
