This spring, millions of people strolling at night near the National Mall in Washington, D.C. will be able to see a museum turned inside-out. The Smithsonian Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden is giving its trademark circular cement exterior a glowing, 360-degree makeover. Between March 22 and May 13, from sundown to midnight, artist Doug Aitken’s "SONG 1" installation will use 11 high-definition video projectors to seamlessly blend moving images around the entire building to the tune of the pop song “I Only Have Eyes for You.” The film will include more than 15 covers of the song from a diverse group of artists including Beck and The Flamingos. According to Hirshhorn deputy director and chief curator Kerry Brougher, "SONG 1" toys with the concept of "liquid architecture"—a constant shifting that transforms museum architect Gordon Bunshaft's heavy, cement mass into a light, ethereal work of art.

Town and Wieden + Kennedy Entertainment bring world-famous underground musician and artist Daniel Johnston to comics this April with his new graphic novel SPACE DUCKS: AN INFINITE COMIC BOOK OF MUSICAL GREATNESS. A celebrated musician and recording artist with a 30-year career that includes over 20 albums -- including covers by Death Cab for Cutie, The Flaming Lips, Tom Waits, Beck, and TV on the Radio -- Johnston was the subject of the 2006 documentary "The Devil and Daniel Johnston" which won the Sundance Film Festival Director's Award. His drawings and paintings have hung in art galleries and museums across the world, including the Whitney Museum of American Art.

'Nimbus' is a new installation of Amsterdam-based artist Berndnaut Smilde, who refuses to explain how he managed to create a real cloud.
Rather than waiting for people to seek out his art in museums or galleries, artist JR brings it to the streets, posting arresting black-and-white portraits of locals around the world on the walls of their neighborhoods. His goal is to give voice and representation to communities that otherwise might be obscured, like women living in Brazilian or Kenyan slums. With his latest global art initiative, the InsideOut Project , JR is spreading his mission on a scale that was previously unimaginable, by crowdsourcing personal photos and the labor of posting them. The project was made possible by TED , which awarded JR the 2011 TED Prize, complete with a $100,000 grant to fund a world-changing project .
