Simple living and high thinking was the motive of many people, but over the time, this motto has been considerably modified to green living and high thinking, which I personally think is more than just a great change.

City Context concept combines solar streetlights with dustbins

Slowly and steadily, people are getting to understand the importance of recycling. Enter the City Context, a unique design that combines the solar powered streetlamps with color-coded dustbins. While the electric street lighting consumes a high percentage of electricity, the solar street lighting does not only secure the road safety efficiently but also produces a considerable economic as well as environmental saving. The City Context was announced as the winner of the 2011 IDEA (international design excellence awards) Award, which is organized by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA).

Tucker Lamp by Tucker Waugh. I was perusing the perpetually well done output of Working Class Studio, a division of the Savannah College of Art and Design, the other day and came across a lovely lamp by furniture designer and SCAD alum Tucker Waugh.

The eponymous Tucker Lamp cuts a nice modern profile, lights the room from both above and below, and at a very economical $110 certainly makes it the best single way to make your well Ikea-ed friends envious without a Ligne Roset budget. This acrylic table lamp stands 19" high by 9" wide and comes with a pair of drum shades in both walnut veneer and white acrylic. I think I prefer the black body with the walnut veneer, though white on white certainly affects that cool, contempo vibe. Une lampe de bureau très mince. Sustainable Egg Packaging. “In regard to the farm’s logo – I was inspired by the farm’s biodynamic methodology. Biodynamic agriculture is based on astronomy and on the alignment of planets which dictate the ideal crop times throughout the year. And so with that said, my logo is inspired by circular astrological calendars. I added overlapping lines to give the logo a more earthy and farm-like apeal,” explains Zirimis. As for the package itself – it is made from one piece of standard chipboard, uses no adhesive and has only one-sided stamp printing.

Smart design meets city lights in these solar-powered LED street lights by Phillips. Inspired by how flowers open up to the sun to collect the sun’s energy, the Sustainable City Lights feature photovoltaic petals that open during the day to collect the sun’s rays and transform them into energy. Then at night, the light closes and LED lights turn on to brighten city streets. Designed for the Phillips Simplicity Event in 2008, the Sustainable City Light is an intelligent outdoor lighting system meant to enhance city life by providing accurate lighting on demand as needed.

The LED lights feature motion sensors that are triggered once the sun sets by individuals walking in close proximity to the light. Studio Drift: Shylight. The installation at the Rijksmuseum can be seen as a performative sculpture that unites the movement of industrial motors with silk chalice structures into a natural choreography. Even from the street, outside of the museum, it is possible to behold the graceful movements of the Shylights: the silk sculptures are visible through the windows of the Rijksmuseum.
