De_la_C : J'ai cru voir un Assassin tout... Michael Fassbender Led ASSASSIN'S CREED Adaptation Finds Home At Fox. Prior to today, the only thing certain about the planned adaptation of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed was that Michael Fassbender would play the lead. Today, we have a new report from Variety on an important next step in the process as the film finds a co-producer (New Regency) and distributor (20th Century Fox).

"We wanted to do everything we could to secure the rights to 'Assassin's Creed,' which Ubisoft has maintained with such care and quality over the years, said New Regency president and CEO Brad Weston. Ubisoft reportedly hopes to have the remaining pieces (script, director, full cast, etc.) in place by next summer according to Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures. Assassin's Creed III, the next installment in the video game franchise drops in US stores on Oct. 30. Fassbender fastened to 'Assassins' - Entertainment News, EXCLUSIVE. Ben de la C: Petit colis reçu, merci @A... Steven Spielberg Turned Down Assassin's Creed Movie.

Why did so many studios -- including Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks -- pass on the Assassin's Creed movie, which Sony ended up making a deal with Ubisoft to develop and distribute? Citing various unnamed insiders at some of the studios that passed on the project, Vulture reports it was largely a matter of creative control. The deal allows Ubisoft approval over everything from budget and script to casting and the release date. "They want to be able to pull the plug on the whole movie's development if they decide to. It's ridiculous," said one boss at a studio that dropped out of the bidding. Another studio exec involved said that while they understand Ubisoft's need to guard their baby, "they're not moviemakers, and the only way to make sure it's a bad movie is to undervalue what movie studios do — and this is a deal that totally undervalues what movie studios do.

" So why did Sony say yes? Sony Pictures Picking Up Assassin's Creed Film Rights. Back in May, Ubisoft Motion Pictures, the film and TV production arm of the game publishing company, announced it was developing 3D feature films based on Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell and Ghost Recon. Variety now says that the Assassin's Creed adaptation has found a home at Sony Pictures.

The trade says that the studio is in final negotiations to adapt and distribute the movie, landing the film rights in a bidding war after Ubisoft started shopping the property over the last several months. The fourth installment of the games, Assassin's Creed: Revelations is set to hit the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 on November 15. Earlier this year, Jean de Rivieres, Ubisoft's senior VP of international marketing and distribution, said "Our strategy is not to diversify but to bolster the appeal of our franchises -- that's why we want to make sure our films will reflect the brands accurately and consolidate our fan base while expanding beyond the games' primary target audience.
