In the same vein of confusing fantasy with reality, I've lately seen dozens of statements asserting that IT managers "prefer a private cloud. " It's time to insist that a preference is only relevant when there's actually a choice to be made. The label of "private cloud" is more associated with a desire than a choice. When someone says that they would "prefer a private cloud," the actual attributes of desire seem to be physical possession of the data and operational control of the infrastructure.

News March 26, 2010 06:00 AM ET Computerworld - For the second year in a row, computer science enrollments in the U.S. have increased, according to an annual study of enrollment trends, giving hope that the degree program is seeing a revival that's here to stay.
The decline in technology-related enrollments that began with the dot-com bust has been worrisome to business and government leaders. President Obama, in particular, has pushed for programs to train more secondary school teachers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. He has gone so far as to urge students to eschew finance degrees in favor of technology areas. The total number of undergraduate majors in computer science increased 5.5% in 2008-2009, the second consecutive year that the number of computer science majors has increased, according to the annual Taulbee Survey by the Computing Research Association. Over a two-year period, the number of such students increased to 14%.
IT Education on a Budget. Computerworld - When Bob Kansa graduated with a bachelor's degree in computer science almost 40 years ago, a surprise awaited him on his first day of work: He was unprepared for the job. "The courses I took in college were not directly related to what I was doing on the job," says Kansa, now associate dean of IT at Macomb Community College in Warren, Mich. "I was asked to do some programming [that] I was totally unprepared for. " Whereas the school taught console I/O for direct-access Fortran applications, for example, his job required file I/O.
