Aunque no exista un consenso defi nitivo sobre el término, podemos afi rmar que las innovaciones sociales son aquellas que son sociales tanto en el “qué” como en el “cómo”. Buscan dar respuesta efectiva a las necesidades sociales de una forma más participativa y abierta. La innovación social puede darse, por tanto, en el ámbito público (transparencia y buen gobierno, participación y cooperación en el diseño de políticas públicas, transversalidad…) y también en la actividad empresarial que busca el benefi cio económico sostenible (en términos sociales y medio ambientales). Además, se presentarán buenas prácticas de innovación social y una plataforma de cooperación para conectar la innovación social regional con las redes europeas.
