Let us help build the kingdom of God by standing up boldly and being defenders of marriage, parenthood, and the home. 12565_000_63oscarson What a privilege and joy to be a part of this marvelous assembly of girls and women.

How blessed we are as women to be joined together this evening in unity and in love. I recently read the story of Marie Madeline Cardon, who, with her family, received the message of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ from the first missionaries called to serve in Italy in 1850. They continued their vicious yells and demands for the missionaries to be brought out. Can’t you just picture that brave young woman, the same age as many of you, standing up to a mob and defending her newly found beliefs with courage and conviction? Sisters, few of us will ever have to face an angry mob, but there is a war going on in this world in which our most cherished and basic doctrines are under attack. When President Gordon B. The Proclamation on the Family: Transcending the Cultural Confusion - Ensign August 2015. Permanent commitments to marriage and parenthood are like two anchor threads running through the design of our social tapestry. “What are your greatest concerns?” A newspaper reporter asked President Gordon B. Hinckley (1910–2008) in June 1995, as he turned 85. He replied: “I am concerned about family life in the Church. We have wonderful people, but we have too many whose families are falling apart. … I think [this] is my most serious concern.”1 Three months later President Hinckley publicly read “The Family: A Proclamation to the World.”2 It was no coincidence that this solemn declaration was issued precisely when the Lord’s prophet felt that, of all the subjects on his mind, unstable family life in the Church was his greatest concern. The proclamation was not merely a collection of pro-family platitudes.

Before we explore what that means for each of us, let us consider how modern culture ended up where it is today. Universal Love Story A Culture Shift Further, in 1973 the U.S. The U.S. Our Fun Family Vacation. In our lives these days, there are so many things that are trying to matter to us. There are emails and phone calls and advertisements and all these things that kind of barrage us.

But I feel like some of the strongest, happiest moments that I've ever felt in my life are when I'm with my children, when I'm with my family. And it's when we come out and do things like this, when we get away from the world and we're just together as a family and we can relax and laugh at each other.

And Mom says something crazy, and that makes my brother Casey say something to her. As we grow up and we get older and we all go our own ways and we start living our own lives and fulfilling our own dreams, it's really good to come back together and reconnect. We talk to our family quite often by telephone. But you don't get a true feel of how their life is going on a five-minute telephone call. But if you get together as a family, you can see how their family is together, how they are reacting together. Reaping the Rewards of Righteousness - Ensign July 2015. No good thing will be withheld from them that walk uprightly. Photo illustration by LiudmylaSupynska/iStock/Thinkstock The world is literally in commotion (see D&C 45:26). Many of our challenges are in the spiritual realm. They are societal issues we as individuals cannot necessarily resolve. Nevertheless, there are practical rewards we can achieve as individuals, even at a time when righteousness across the world is in decline. The very idea of “rewards of righteousness” is a concept that is under siege in today’s world. Convincing people to choose righteousness is an age-old challenge. The difference today is that the “great and spacious building” (1 Nephi 8:31) skeptics are louder, more contentious, and less tolerant than at any time during my life. The battle between good and evil is not new. Nevertheless, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has never had more faithful members.

The Reward of Spirituality We are so much a part of this world. President Spencer W. 1. Dannon Loveland sur Twitter : "Families Can Be Together Forever □ @EyringHB #family... Families Can Be Together Forever - Ensign June 2015. The priesthood power to bind families eternally is one of the greatest gifts of God. Every person who understands the plan of salvation longs for that lasting blessing. Only in sealing ceremonies performed in dedicated temples of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does God offer the promise that families can be bound together forever. The priesthood keys that make this possible were restored to the earth by the prophet Elijah to Joseph Smith in the Kirtland Temple. Those priesthood keys have been passed in an unbroken line through living prophets in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the present day.

The Savior in His mortal ministry spoke of the power to seal families in words to Peter, His chief Apostle, when He said, “Whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven” (Matthew 16:19). It is only in the celestial kingdom that we can live in families forever. Youth Children Next. A mainland Chinese student visited my office last week, asking for a letter of recommendation for his transfer to another university.

It is hard to lose a student like this—enthusiastic and bright, the sort who sits on the front row of a large auditorium lecture class and asks good questions. He gave the usual reasons for wanting to transfer: he liked Pepperdine, of course, but it did not offer the technically specialized majors he or his parents were seeking. When asked where he was applying, he listed some elite East-Coast schools, but he seemed most interested in two Hong Kong universities. When asked why, he mentioned a girlfriend, but emphasized that he had a cousin back in China to whom he was extremely close: “He is like a brother to me.”

Since our conversation I keep returning in my thoughts to this student’s strong tie to his cousin. It is not unusual for cousins to be very close, of course, but that is not what is so striking in this case. Smaller Families Equal a Bigger State. Defend yourself against Satan with these four tools. In the Book of Mormon, the prophet Helaman teaches his sons that they must build their spiritual foundation on Jesus Christ in order to withstand the whirlwinds of life (see Helaman 5:12). In the October 2014 general conference, Elder Richard G.

Scott of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles taught about four spiritual tools that help us build this foundation: prayer, scripture study, family home evening, and temple worship. These four tools help us hearken unto the words of Christ and build our testimonies, lives, and homes “upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God” (Helaman 5:12; see also Matthew 7:24–27).

“When these tools become fundamental habits,” Elder Scott said, “they provide the easiest way to find peace in the challenges of mortality.”1 They help us to withstand the mighty winds of the adversary, so that they have “no power over [us] to drag [us] down to the gulf of misery and endless wo” (Helaman 5:12).

The Christmas Story Is a Family Story. It seems inevitable that Christmastime evokes the most tender and loving feelings toward the Savior and His earthly family.

The Christmas story is a family story. Indeed, the accounts we have in the New Testament of the birth of Christ, especially in Matthew and Luke, may be the most well-documented family history account ever given. Not only is there extensive and detailed genealogy recorded, but perhaps nowhere else in all of literature, whether religious or secular, is there a more tender and moving account of family unity, sacrifice, love, and service. The Christmas story is a story of a family that connects heaven and earth. Each member of Jesus’s earthly family—Mary, Joseph, and Jesus—stands as supernal examples of God’s Christmas gift to all mankind. The Christmas story should spiritually motivate us to emulate the attributes of this holy family. Let’s first examine the attributes of Mary. Mary teaches us the importance of trusting in the Lord. Technologies don’t really change that fast — HTML5 and CSS3 take a long time to be specified and implemented.

But the ideas surrounding these technologies and the things we can do with them are constantly evolving, and hundreds of blog posts and articles are published every day. There’s no way you can read all of those but you’ll still have to keep up to date. Here are some tips on doing that while still having some time left to work. Filtering The hardest part of staying up to date is not reading too much. People Some people produce lots and lots of ideas. This tip works very well for Twitter, but it works for blogs as well.
