Hoewel landbouwproducten gerust de oudste producten op aarde mogen heten, is de sector nog nooit zo dynamisch geweest als tegenwoordig! Daarbij staat Nederland van oudsher bekend als agrarisch handelsland en als tuinbouwland. In het studieprogramma wordt 'standaard' bedrijfskunde gecombineerd met specifieke agrarische kennis.
Datamining is het gericht zoeken naar (statistische) verbanden in grote verzamelingen gegevens voor wetenschappelijke of commerciële doeleinden. Zo'n verzameling gegevens kan gevormd worden door gebeurtenissen in een praktijksituatie te registreren (aankoopgedrag van consumenten, symptomen bij patiënten, et cetera) of door de resultaten van eerder uitgevoerde wetenschappelijke onderzoeken met elkaar te vergelijken en te herinterpreteren. De naam komt voort uit de overeenkomsten tussen het zoeken naar statistische verbanden en het graven (mining) naar iets waardevols in een grote berg. Datamining helpt bedrijven en wetenschappers om de essentiële informatie uit gegevens te selecteren.

In a high-context culture, there are many contextual elements that help people to understand the rules. As a result, much is taken for granted. In a low-context culture, very little is taken for granted.
