Bog jacket with hood. Myras Makings. The Bog Coat: My new obsession.

Myras Makings

Lately I’ve been wanting to make clothing very fast with minimal fussing. I found a flat of a bog coat and haven’t a lull of ideas since, I feel so incredibly inspired right now. How is it done? Well all you need is one rectangle of awesomely dyed fabric, have done your calculations/measuring, four persisly measured and cut slits, and two to five seams. Here is my pattern draft/measurements: The four darker lines are where I cut.

Here the front center seam is already sewed, top half will be sleeves and a hood. All done! Here it’s easy to see how the sleeves are essentially a tube. I dyed this cotton fleece using MX dyes and a low immersion technique. History of bog coat: Style resembles ancient garments found in western Europe. Each heel should be 1/2" away from the center line, and the balls of the feet below the big toes should be 1/4" away from the center-line of the paper. 2. Even with the heels, mark points E and E' (1/2" from the center-line and 1" from the edge of the paper) Also mark points D and D' (1/2" from the center-line at the edge of the paper). 3. 8. 9. KAPPOGI!

I grew up in Hawaii and loved the "mama-san" aprons worn by Japanese women; they seemed so attractive, while being practical at the same time. I've never understood those skimpy little aprons worn by a lot of women...they must not be as messy as I am when cooking! I know, I know, in my last post I was all set to do a major cleaning of my studio, and I DID, for a day or so...but I had ordered, then lost, this pattern a year ago and when I finally unearthed it, I NEEDED to make one for myself...

I used quilting cottons that I had originally bought in my purse-making days and used the pattern as is except for lengthening the sleeves. It's a little late, considering my holiday cooking and cleaning is over, but it never hurts to have a cute "costume" for every day! Rostitchery: convertible/infinity dress.
