One topic is, what are the most important issues that we face? The second topic is, what issues are not being treated seriously -- or at all -- in the quadrennial frenzy now underway called an election? But I realized that there's no problem; it's not a hard choice: they're the same topic. And there are reasons for it, which are very significant in themselves. I'd like to return to that in a moment. Actually, a good answer to this was given years ago by Adam Smith, someone we're supposed to worship but not read. The ‘Axis of Evil’ Returns

The United States can be held to lead the international community only if that community is defined as the U.S. and whoever happens to go along with it, often through intimidation, as is sometimes tacitly conceded. An interim agreement on Iran's nuclear policies that will provide a six-month period for substantive negotiations was announced on November 24. Michael Gordon, a reporter for the New York Times, wrote, “It was the first time in nearly a decade, American officials said, that an international agreement had been reached to halt much of Iran's nuclear program and roll some elements of it back.”

The United States moved at once to impose severe penalties on a Swiss firm that had violated U.S. -imposed sanctions. The “landmark accord” indeed includes significant Iranian concessions–though nothing comparable from the United States, which merely agreed to temporarily limit its punishment of Iran. It's easy to imagine possible U.S. concessions. Noam Chomsky - Imperial Grand Strategy Part 1. Noam Chomsky - Media Control and Indoctrination in the United States. The United States is a very frightened country. There is change. If we were sitting here wondering if, all of a sudden, there’s going to be a bomb in this room, because they maybe want to kill him or kill us or whatever, it’s terrorizing. So, some progress. Yes.
