Let Winners Go Weightless: Meetings & Conventions. Hinda Incentives. Why Instagram Co-Hosted a Summer Camp for Start-Ups. LOS ANGELES More than 200 small business owners and entrepreneurs gathered for the first-ever School of Hustle on August 14. The daylong conference, which was presented by Instagram for Business and trendy apron company Hedley & Bennett, allowed attendees to swap insights and advice on navigating the small business world, as well as learn lessons on using social media effectively.

The event, held at Hedley & Bennett’s Los Angeles headquarters, was the brainchild of Ellen Bennett, founder of the five-year-old apron start-up. For the summer-camp-inspired summit, she teamed up with Instagram for Business, a division of the social media company that works with entrepreneurs to help them use the app to grow their businesses. “Both Instagram and Hedley & Bennett wanted to continue fostering the sense of community that's building among entrepreneurs on the platform,” said Morgan Cornelius, Instagram's community programs lead for SMBs (small and midsize businesses).

When it came to selecting speakers, Cornelius said that they hoped to feature a mix of business leaders and small businesses who have used Instagram to grow. Panel topics included “The Awkwardness of the True Hustle," “Boss Evolution: the Stages of Building Your Business," “Social Media Community Online and Off," and “A New Approach to Retail: Mixed Media IRL.”

The trip-planning application was designed to help users plan each day of their trips in the top 200 cities in the world. With Google Trips, users can browse a list of suggested day plans for each city, which feature the “most popular daily itineraries” for each location. Each day plan contains multiple sights, and is based on a theme or on one or more neighborhoods. For instance, one of the San Francisco day plans is called “San Francisco with Kids,” and it features three suggested attractions for users traveling with children. Elsewhere, if a user knows a specific attraction they’d like to visit, they can pin the location on a map, and the app will suggest additional attractions to visit around that location. Once the app suggests destinations to visit, users can pin any suggested spots they like, and they can tap a magic wand button to receive additional attraction suggestions until they’ve completed their day plans.

Cheetos tacos? Fried pickles crusted with Cheetos? How about cheesecake crusted with—you guessed it—Cheetos? If those culinary delights (or disasters?) The restaurant features dishes from celebrity chef Anne Burrell. “We were inspired by Cheetos fans and popular restaurants nationwide,” said Ryan Matiyow, senior director of marketing at Frito-Lay, noting that he’s seen recipes for everything from bagels to sushi featuring Cheetos.

It’s worth noting that the Frito-Lay brand has found success with strange interactive experiences before. The Cheetos team has sampled the whole menu, according to Matiyow, and “across the team the favorite is the mac and cheese.” Burrell noted in a statement that the menu is “specially crafted” and “one-of-a-kind.” Check out the full menu here. Shark Tank: Phone Soap Cleans Up With Lori Greiner's $300k Investment. Dan Barnes and Wes LaPorte have a company called Phone Soap. They say your cellphone has more germs than a public toilet, and one in six has fecal matter on it. They say it’s large enough for any phone to fit inside, and because it’s a universal charger, it works for all phones, too.

They’ve developed a product that uses ultraviolet light to kill the bacteria on your phone, while charging it. They warn that cleaning chemical cleaners strip a protective coating from your phone, causing more fingerprints on the screen, as well as possibly damaging the phone and voiding the warranty. The idea came when Wes was doing cancer research, and Dan told him about an article that claimed cell phones were 18 times dirtier than toilets. [name] is asking the sharks to invest in [company] to enable it to The offer to the sharks is 7.5% of the company for a $300,000 investment. In five and a half months, they’ve made $537,000 in sales. LG is trying to make washing the dishes a little more fun with an inflatable water park in Manhattan.

The South Korean electronics manufacturer is harnessing the heat of summer this weekend by transforming a block on New York’s Upper East Side into a water attraction inspired by its new LG QuadWash dishwasher. The 6,750-square-foot pop-up park—roughly the size of two and a half tennis courts—is a maze of dishes, complete with cups, plates and giant spoon slide. It has the look and feel of a bouncy house with sprinklers, and as visitors reach the end, they come in contact with giant spray arms meant to replicate the dishwasher’s four-pronged method of washing dishes. The activation is part of Citi Summer Streets, an annual summer festival in New York during three weekends in August that is expected to attract around 300,000 attendees. It’s also part of a larger sponsorship of the festival, which takes place on Aug. 5, Aug. 12 and Aug. 19. Bike-Powered Elevator Takes Commuting To The Next Level.

The Vycle operates similarly to an ordinary bicycle, but allows the rider to go up flights of a building instead of taking an elevator Instead of an elevator, go up the floors of a building using the Vycle, a vertical bicycle that acts as an elevator and relies on the rider’s pedaling to get to the top. The concept was created by Royal College of Art graduate Elena Larriba and engineer Jon Garcia. A Vycle operates as an ordinary bike would: the rider sits down on the seat and pedals forward when they want to go up and backward when they want to go down. The system would have counterweights installed and features adjustable gears for riders to choose how much resistance there is when they pedal. A Vycle could also find use in the construction sector. Larriba and Garcia believe it would replace the ladders found on a scaffolding or a crane, making it easier for construction workers to traverse their vertical work site. If you were hoping to take a selfie at the #DeltaDatingWall in Williamsburg, Brooklyn this weekend, you’ll find that the airline has overhauled the wall. Instead of detailed paintings of exotic locales, the wall is now adorned with playful yet intricate depictions of 133 airport codes—all of the places you can fly out of NYC on Delta.

The airport code illustrations by artist Celyn Brazier, who worked with Delta’s creative agency Wieden + Kennedy in New York (the walls were handpainted by Colossal Media), all showcase something special about the city or town they depict. For example, the illustration for JFK features an apple. According to the agency, Delta is asking people to go and find these hidden gems—for what it’s worth, Cedar Rapids, Iowa’s CID airport code has an ear of corn—and post in the comments on Instagram for the chance to win something. “Many people who call New York home have another hometown somewhere else,” said Wieden + Kennedy copywriter Ian Hart in an email. Cruise is running an autonomous ride-hailing service for employees in SF | TechCrunch.

Cruise, the self-driving startup acquired by GM last year, is already operating a complete autonomous ride-hailing service in San Francisco for its employees. The service is called “Cruise Anywhere,” and it allows employees to use a smartphone app to get anywhere they need to go in SF, seven days a week. Cruise Anywhere is in beta, hence the employee-only restriction, but the company says that some employees are already using it as their primary source of transportation, replacing either personal vehicle ownership, public transit or traditional ride-hailing services completely.

In total, Cruise says 10 percent of its SF employees are using the beta, and more are being enrolled each week with a waitlist currently in place. “We’ve always said we’d launch first with a rideshare application, and this is in line with that and just further evidence of that,” said Cruise CEO and co-founder Kyle Vogt in an interview.

Quilted Northern wants to prove it has a strong, sturdy product so it teamed up with Cheap Chic Weddings to sponsor the 13th annual Toilet Paper Wedding Dress competition. Yeah, you heard that correctly. Wedding gowns made out of toilet paper. This was the first year Quilted Northern sponsored the event, but it was an easy fit for the brand. “Quilted Northern wanted to make a big splash and really show how their product could really help out. It’s also a natural parallel between their big attention to detail.

They take their craft seriously,” Droga5 copywriter Daniel Litzow said. The competition was opened up to designers across the country earlier in the year. Las Vegas’ Kari Curletto designed the winning dress this year (shown above). As part of the event, Droga5 created a short video to tease it—giving a bit of personality to an ambitious roll of toilet paper that would eventually travel the world and become a beautiful wedding gown.

The idea of swimming in any of New York City’s notoriously filthy rivers is likely to leave most of the city’s residents feeling the same way—incredulous, and probably a little nauseated. But Heineken and Tribeca Studios (the production arm of Tribeca Enterprises) are looking to drum up more support for a floating—and heavily filtered—public pool in the city’s most local waters, with a pair of new videos narrated by Neil Patrick Harris. The pool itself is not a new proposition: Shaped like a plus sign, and aptly named “Plus Pool,” it’s the brainchild of a handful of local architects and designers, who have been spearheading stress-testing and fundraising for the project since 2010.

The pool, though, is still far from a sure thing. Its founders are still hashing out a location with local officials and working on gathering investors to provide the $20 million it will take to build. Disney Wants To Turn Augmented Reality Into A Shared Experience. A new installation called Magic Bench lets an entire group of people share in AR experiences Disney, known for bringing people together to share experiences, is hoping to do so with augmented reality.

Disney Research has created the Magic Bench, which combines augmented and mixed reality for a group of people to interact with together. Using a camera and depth sensor, Magic Bench creates a 3D reaction of the visitor to the bench, allowing virtual characters and objects to interact with the participant as though they were real. The bench is the integral part of the system as it communicates how many people are sitting on it and which way they are facing. The experience is dictated by how many people are involved and what they’re doing. The possibilities of Magic Bench are extensive, especially considering how it could be applied to a theme park setting where guests play with their favorite animated characters.
