THE.GARDEN*No.Mow.Yards. Ditch Your Unwanted CDs, Do Autism Research a Solid. If you're running a bit behind schedule on the whole spring cleaning thing, you can still get rid of the stacks of CDs you've been meaning to chuck, and now for a good cause: CD Sweep, an initiative benefitting the Autism Science Foundation, is looking to whisk away your old CDs because they need them more than you do.

Founded last year, CD Sweep takes used CD and DVD donations to iPodmeister, a CD reseller that ships used discs to overseas countries, where they have higher resale value. Each disc donated earns 50 cents that is then donated to ASF, which provides funding directly to scientists conducting research into the causes and treatment of autism.Donating itself is probably just as easy (if not easier) than what you were planning on doing with your discs (depending on how much you hate CDs, that is): Go to the CD Sweep website to fill out and submit a quick donation form.

Bird songs. The Importance of Air Sealing Green Architect. There is a reason the Obama administration recently rolled out it's 'Cash for Caulkers' program: air sealing the home is one of the most cost effective ways to increase energy efficiency. No matter how well your house is insulated, if there are cracks and gaps, the air you just paid to heat or cool will quickly be lost. But air sealing is easy and relatively cheap as long as you know what areas to attack with the caulk gun.As the seasons change, cracks and gaps will open and close and allow unwanted air to infiltrate, conditioned air to pass and moisture to leak into the home. This can cause a number of problems such as mold, drafts, and heat loss in the winter or gain in the summer.

Leaks can be sealed with caulk, spray foam or even just weather stripping depending on the problem area. Exterior Windows & Doors: Insulate around frame with a low expanding foam insulation, caulk at frame & drywall/trim intersection, consider adding storm windows to single pane units. Interior. Get the Most from Your Point-and-Shoot Camera. Pollen Index & Forecast. As a ritual, each spring summer and fall, tiny particles known as pollen are released from trees, grasses and weeds. Pollen is transported by air currents and enters human noses and throats, triggering an allergic reaction named allergic rhinitis, also known as Pollen Allergy.

According to the National Institute of Allergies and Infectious Diseases, a branch of the National Institute of Health, approximately 35 million Americans complain from upper respiratory symptoms related to pollen. Not everybody is allergic to pollen. Scientists believe that some people inherit a tendency to be allergic and respond with a specific immunological reaction.

In an allergic reaction, the body's immune system generates a type of antibody called immunoglobulin IgE. The antibody developed is specific for each type of pollen. ie: ragweed, oak, sagebrush, etc. Pollen count is a measure of how much pollen is in the air in a certain area at a specific time.
