Black History Road Trip: Negro Motorist Green Book Destinations. (The Root) -- In 1936 a Harlem postal worker and activist named Victor H. Green decided to develop a guide that would help African Americans travel throughout the country in a safe and comfortable manner. The Negro Motorist Green Book (also called The Negro Travelers' Green Book), often simply known as The Green Book, identified places that welcomed black people during an era when Jim Crow laws and de facto segregation made it difficult for them to travel domestically without fear of racial backlash. The Green Book listed businesses and places of interest such as nightclubs, beauty salons, barbershops, gas stations and garages that catered to black road-trippers. For almost three decades, travelers could request (for just 10 cents' postage) and receive a guide from Green. Eventually the guide expanded to encompass information about Canada and Mexico.

The Green Book has recently been rediscovered in popular culture. Some of the locations mentioned in the books are still standing today. Electric car concept drives progress with extended 500-mile range. The design is certainly head-turning, but it's the eye-catching 500-mile (800-kilometer) range this electric car can achieve which could really set it apart from the competition, say its Danish developers. Instead of allowing room for just a single fixed battery pack, ECOmove has built in modules (six in total) inside the chassis of the QBEAK, allowing for a variety of energy sources to be slotted in.

A methanol fuel cell developed by Danish tech company Serenergy will be used in the car. A chemical process converts the methanol into electricty which charges the battery. The QBEAK weighs 425 kilograms without batteries and has a top speed of 120 kph (75 mph). Specially designed in-wheel motors drive the car. Using bio-methanol as a fuel source means that, unlike hydrogen fuel cell cars, the QBEAK could utilize traditional energy and distribution systems at relatively little extra cost, according to ECOmove. Can this car spark an electric revolution? Clever chassis Methanol fuel cell. 13 Things Your Car Mechanic Won't Tell You. Real mechanics give you the inside scoop on the tricks of the trade.
