Gerry Judah. JIANG Pengyi. B. 1977, Yuanjiang, Hunan Province, China Jiang Pengyi graduated from the Beijing Institute of Art and Design in 1999. He has been awarded the Aletti ArtVerona Prize for Photography in 2011, the Jury Grand Prize from the Société Générale Chinese Art Awards in 2010 and the Three Shadows Photography Award in 2008. Jiang was invited to participate in the Helsinki Photography Biennial 2012 and is nominated for the Prix Pictet 2012. Jiang now lives and works in Beijing and Hangzhou, China. About Everything IlluminatesIn contrast to his early works, his latest series Everything Illuminates are images of still objects glowing in the dark. Nadav Kander. Une belle série « Yangtsé, le long fleuve » du photographe Nadav Kander, né à Tel Aviv et travaillant en Grande-Bretagne. Ce travail documente le changement qui affecte les paysages et les communautés du fleuve, en Chine. Il été récompensé par le prix Pictet en 2009. Motoi Yamamoto dans le cadre de l’exposition Reliefs à Toulouse. « C’est dans la montagne de sel que se trouve le souvenir de ma sœur. Mais pour parvenir à la montagne, ne serait-ce qu’en pensée, il faut trouver son chemin à travers un labyrinthe. » L'artiste japonais Motoi Yamamoto travaille avec le sel et présente dans l'exposition Reliefs à Toulouse une très grande œuvre qui se compose de petits grains blancs agglutinés les uns aux autres, formant ça et là quelques amas plus denses ou bien le dessin d'un labyrinthe.
L'importation surprenante dans le domaine de l'art de cette substance naturelle utilisée au Japon dans les cérémonies célébrant la naissance ou bien celle du culte funéraire en vue de lui donner l'image d'un labyrinthe attenant à une montagne implique un procédé technique adapté. Ceal Floyer’s work takes the Readymade aesthetic to its logical conclusion. For Nail Biting Performance, 2001, she walked onto the stage at Birmingham Symphony Hall immediately prior to the beginning of a concert and bit off her fingernails into the microphone. This performance was hosted by the Ikon Gallery Birmingham (England) and an Ikon Gallery text reports: “Her ‘nail biting performance’ took stage-fright as its subject, the artist, bit her fingernails into a microphone for five minutes.
The sight of her alone amongst the musicians’ empty chairs, accompanied by the amplified sound of nervousness, was affecting and tense.” Another of her works, H2O Diptych, 2002, consists of two monitors, one showing a pan of water slowly reaching boiling point whilst on the other a glass of fizzy mineral water gradually goes flat. A till receipt attached to the gallery wall is the seemingly inconsequential evidence of a shopping trip. Ceal Floyer: Logical Conclusion.
