Steve Tomlin Crafts

Yesterday evening I was out collecting leaves for a project I’ve been wanting to do for a few years. For this I want to have the freshest young leaves possible, while they’re still soft so I’ve been going to my local woods on a regular basis, watching the buds open as we head into spring. If you leave it too late in the season, the leaves will turn waxy and then you have to wait another year. I love these seasonal things that you can only do at one time of year; like picking blackberries or slipping the bark off a twig to make a whistle. These leaves are only a day or two old and on small, understory trees; the big mature beeches that seeded them take longer to come into leaf and, when they do, they’re to high up to easily collect. So what’s it all for? Beech Noyau A noyau is a cordial made from brandy, gin, cognac etc.

They had contacted me after seeing some of my work online and I was thrilled to work with them. They were interested in printing some of my watercolors on an organic cotton voile. Voile is a very light and very soft fabric. It is also slightly sheer which works nicely with a watercolor pattern. When the bolts of fabric arrived I couldnt believe how soft it was. Above is a little sun dress for my daughter. These two little friends were made using the pattern from Simplicity 1549. These cute pajama bottoms are made using a pattern from McCalls M6225.

In the same flavour I found this pattern by McCalls M6249 for some women's pj bottoms. Finally, we thought it would fun to try some cosmetic bags. I hope you have enjoyed this post, I have been having fun thinking about a few more projects to do with these fabrics and I will share them back here soon when they are finished. Xoleslie.
