Landfill Harmonic is a heartfelt story of how instruments made from recycled garbage have brought hope to children whose future was otherwise spiritless. It all began when a garbage picker named Nicolás Gómez found what resembled a violin in a landfill in Paraguay. The landfill actually serves as a primary form of subsistence for many local residents; a place where a violin is worth more than a house. Using other found objects, Nicolás transformed the garbage he had found into a fully functional violin. He soon after built a flute, cello, and drum, and then a youth’s orchestra was born. A group is making a film about the project and are currently seeking funding on Kickstarter. Share With Your Friends. Unique Craft Ideas With Neck Ties. A dream treehouse. I've always wanted a treehouse when I was a child but living in a city made it a little difficult. Instead, we would built forts, tents or just crawl under the bed to play. It's weird right now but back then we really loved having those hideouts where nobody could find us. We could stay there for as long as we wanted. Telling horror stories and feeling like these were the safest places to be. But what happens if you're an adult and still dream of a treehouse?

I did a little web research for treehouses all over the world and oh my what I found. Safe Arbor in Switzerland. Trillium. The enchanted forest. A modern, pitched roof treehouse. A treehouse morning. A dream treehouse. Those are just a few of many treehouses. Impressive DIY Ideas With Empty Bottles. What to do with all the empty bottles? Turn them into decorations. Recycled Bicycle Chain Chandeliers. Using old bicycle parts that she salvages from scrap metal yards and bike shop dumpsters, Carolina Fontoura Alzaga creates these incredible bicycle chain chandeliers. The chandeliers form a series called CONNECT, which “addresses class codes, power dynamics, reclaimed agency, and ecological responsibility.

The traditional chandelier is seen as a bourgeois commodity, a cachet of affluence, excess, and as such power. The recycled bicycle parts become a representation of the dismissed, invisible, and powerless, but are also an affirmation of self-propelled movement. The bicycle chandelier thereby creates a new third meaning of reclaimed agency.” Carolina was recently featured on The Etsy Blog along with this 3 minute long film called Handmade Portraits: Chain Reaction about her art and its meaning. You can purchase one of Carolina’s handmade chandeliers from her Etsy shop. Share With Your Friends. TetraBox Light by Ed Chew & Yanko Design. Liquid to Light Designer Ed Chew takes a green step in the right direction with the TetraBox lamp, a light object made from discarded drink packets that would have otherwise ended up in landfills already packed to the brim.

The design is achieved by unfolding the packets and refolding them into hexagonal and pentagonal sections that are then pieced together to form a geodesic sphere or any other desired shape. Here, the Epcot-like ball makes an attractive overhead light and casts an impressive web of shadows and shapes on the surrounding space. Designer: Ed Chew. Whatimade.com part 4.
