The Importance of Vocabulary in Writing. Every good mechanic has a toolbox full of tools.

The Importance of Vocabulary in Writing

Some tools are used more than others, but every one has a specific purpose. In much the same way, writers have a “toolbox.” This “toolbox” is constantly growing and is filled with items like grammar, punctuation, and capitalization rules; figurative language; rhyme; rhythm; and…vocabulary. International Bureau of Education. Governance has been defined to refer to structures and processes that are designed to ensure accountability, transparency, responsiveness, rule of law, stability, equity and inclusiveness, empowerment, and broad-based participation.

Governance also represents the norms, values and rules of the game through which public affairs are managed in a manner that is transparent, participatory, inclusive and responsive. Governance therefore can be subtle and may not be easily observable. In a broad sense, governance is about the culture and institutional environment in which citizens and stakeholders interact among themselves and participate in public affairs. It is more than the organs of the government. International agencies such as UNDP, the World Bank, the OECD Development Assistance Committee (DAC) and others define governance as the exercise of authority or power in order to manage a country’s economic, political and administrative affairs.

What Are 21st Century Skills? Developing digital literacies. Developing staff digital literacies can often be overlooked but it is key that institutions invest in development opportunities for both academic and support staff so that they can support students more effectively and enhance their own professional competences.

Developing digital literacies

While many staff are advocates of the benefits of technology to learning and teaching, there are pockets of resistance due to eg lack of confidence, lack of time to engage with new tools, distrust of the academic benefits or cultural attitudes. Universities and colleges provide a range of services from conventional IT training to more tailored e-learning support which help staff explore technology options and how they can enhance the curriculum. Professional development programmes also offer opportunities to raise awareness of how digital tools can support teaching practice and help staff reflect on their own competences.

Often though it is about engaging staff in change so creating opportunities for conversations is key. Final Reports - LLIDA. Developing digital literacies. Great Fire of London Facts for Kids. The Great Fire of London, September 1666.

The Assessment Tool can be used across government ministries, throughout local authority administrations, with the courts and judicial systems, with relevant professionals working with children, with academic and civil society partners, and with organisations of children and young people.
