Her simple and lovely Angel Fish tangle pattern is her first on the site. Marizaan writes, “Five years ago I was introduced to Zentangle® by accident looked it up and as a Social Worker and Art Therapist I knew here was something special. I was not practicing anymore but I wanted to teach Zentangle as I knew instinctively it could change people. It took me four years before I could make my trip to Providence but I am now a proud CZT. I was doing Sanibelle when this just emerged. Dragonair is based on the official tangle Cadent, which you will no doubt discover is a veritable tangleation factory.
Angel Fish is a very easy and versatile tangle pattern – you can draw it as simply as I’ve done above or you can create an overall pattern with it as Marizaan does in her tile below. I've been playing with a new pattern recently, and it falls right in line with my affinity for round things.
Cruffle can be used with grids or dot guides if you really want them in neat rows... but personally, I'm down with chaos. I like mine all over the place like a roomful of toddlers on a rainy day. The basics: Some half-cruffle variations: If you like your cruffles well-mannered and domesticated, you can wrangle them into a grid: Arrange them into a bouquet: ...teach them how to walk on a leash.

I’ve discovered an awesome Zentangle site which has great instructions for doing loads of different designs, and over the past couple of days I’ve been working on some of them.
I decided to do what they call the “step-outs” for myself so I can easily access them from my Art journal. I particularly like the one on the right, entitled “Cubine” – I tried to draw this the other day, without much success, but once I’d found the step-out, it was easy. It’s so three-dimensional, and you can decide from which angle you are looking at the boxes by where you draw the black squares – I’ve tried several variations here. Braids and twists take quite a lot of practice to get them even. I’m still not there yet but hopefully eventually I’ll be able to do decent ones without even thinking about it. The one at the bottom left on the above photo, repeated on the left page below, “Finery”), I haven’t got quite right – but it’s coming!
