Shanks granted planning permission for second UK anaerobic digestion facility

Located on the Westcott Venture Park, between Bicester and Aylesbury, in Buckinghamshire, construction will begin on the £11M plant in April this year and it is expected to be operational in early 2012. The 48,000tpa plant will generate up to 2MW of renewable energy and will be built using Orgaworld technology, a subsidary company of Shanks. It will receive and process material from customers such as those in the retail and catering sector, who produce high volumes of food and other organic waste, and will also process material from other Shanks recycling facilities.

This is the masssive benefit waste management companies have in the biogas sector – they have access to the waste streams already unlike most developers out there.
