Lives and works in Paris.) Since the beginning of his pioneering career in the early 1970s, Mattia Bonetti has approached the distinction between art and design not as a barrier, but as a wellspring of creative dialogue. As Carol Vogel writes, "Bonetti's work captures a particularly imaginative moment at the end of the 20th and beginning of the 21st centuries when historical forms are freshly translated and familiar materials are pushed to new limits. Every design, whether it be a sofa or a simple box, combines a sense of whimsy and glamour with a distinctive intelligence and originality. " A comprehensive monograph of his work was published in 2010 by Skira/Rizzoli, featuring photography and text by Reed Krakoff and essays by Adrian Dannatt, Jacques Grange, Marie-Laure Jousset, and Princess Gloria von Thurn und Taxis.

À l'instar des œuvres présentées, au dépouillement volontaire, la scénographie, signée par le designer, procède d'une stratégie, sinon du retrait, du moins de la discrétion. The exhibition, which opens on 14 May, is called Daniel Weil and the Art of Design and will provide an overview of Weil's 30 year career in the design industry, from his studies at the Royal College of Art to his role at multidisciplinary design consultancy Pentagram. As well as the collection of three clocks, which were designed specially for the exhibition, it will include sketchbooks and archival material relating to some of Weil's best-known designs, including his Bag Radio, a deconstructed radio contained in a transparent plastic bag that he developed in 1981. On the second floor, the living space is a large open room, complementing the structural transparency that Wright worked to incorporate in his designs. The experience only heightened my admiration for him. This year, I made the time. As the glamour of North Michigan Avenue and the bustle of the downtown Loop receded with each passing stop, I was happy to make my way to suburbia.

Wright, a native of Richland Center, Wis., lived in Oak Park from 1889 until 1909, his formative years as an architect. I opted for the “Wright Around Oak Park Tour” ($60), an extensive three-hour guided walking tour offered daily from April through October. Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio Thomas H.
