"Look, Alistair," said the leader of our Scout troop, leading me to a quiet corner away from prying ears. I blinked, not knowing what to expect. "It's like this... we've decided not to promote you to patrol leader this time round. We didn't think your performance on the weekend hike showed the right kind of skills, and everyone thinks you need a little bit more time to grow into the role. Hope you're not too disappointed." His new column is published every week, regular as clockwork and his reviews are more about the human condition and how pop music illuminates or distracts from it than anything else. His taste in music is based on 80's pop music, but from there he can go in many directions.
