Before & After: Terri's Battered to Beautiful Chairs. Why Don't You Try This?: Man Builds Fairy Tale Home for His Family – Total Cost £3,000. Simon Dale is a family man in Wales, the western part of Great Britain. His interest in self-sustainability and an ecological awareness led him to dig out and build his own home—one of the loveliest, warmest, most inviting dwellings you could ever imagine. And it cost him only £3,000, about $4,700 American dollars!

Can you imagine a more charming entrance than this? Simon gives two reasons for building the home. “It’s fun. His second reason is a plea for sustainability, in which he states that “our supplies are dwindling and our planet is in ecological catastrophe”. Simon is also a photographer, and as you can see throughout this article, a talented one. A beautiful view in another home that Simon is helping build for someone else. The tools are fairly simple. The home is constructed from wood, stone, straw, and has a sod roof. Most amazingly, the home didn’t require years of training or experience. He was fortunate in obtaining the land for his home. Source: Gaia-Health via Design we Need. Establishing a Permaculture based Food Forest. Permaculture is a design system that is based on understanding ecosystems, it takes a look at the interactions between the trees, plants, fungi, bacteria, birds, animals and all other natural elements to create a sustainable ecosystem.

In the first video we go through a slideshow with Josh Robinson a permaculturist gives us a detailed insight into Permaculture, the functioning and how it works as a sustainable solution in creating a food forest. He talks about the flaws in the tradition orchard system, where the same trees are planted together, thus making the soil deficient of the same nutrients, the need for fertilization and also susceptible to diseases. The alternative to this method is a permaculture food forest, a perennial polyculture of multi-purposed plants. This design not only produce lots of food, but provide other services such as pest control, auto fertilization, mulch, pollination and much more. What can you expect when you have a Food Forest based on permaculture?

Growing

Gardening. How to Make a Home Garden Greenhouse. 1.5 years ago greenhouse, guest post, winter garden As the world is speeding up its pace of development every second, we are losing many important things on earth. Saving environment where we live is the need of the hour. We are losing so much greenery every hour around the world that the time is not far when greenery will be hard to find. Though governments are making efforts to save the environment, it’s not enough- our efforts value the most. Greenhouses are generally built to somewhat gain control over the environment suitable for plants. Frames The greenhouse frames are of three types- the “Quonset” which is simple tunnel shaped, ridged beam with taller gothic shape having arched sidewalls and third one with vertical side walls having able roof. Quonset This basic inexpensive Quonset greenhouse structure is made from 1/2 inch PVC plastic pipe. Gothic Gothic greenhouses are tall as compared to Quonset shape.

Rigid Frame These greenhouses are built by professional contractors. Like this: Practical Plants. Polycultures, Guilds & Companions... In addition to each plant being able to record interactions with other individual plants, users can also create polycultures or guilds of known plant combinations that work well together. We are at the very start of our collection of polycultures with The Three Sisters set up as a quick example.
