http://oli.web.cmu.edu/openlearning/ On Tuesday, February 7 at 3 pm ET (tentative), the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology (PCAST) expects to release its report entitled “Engage to Excel: Producing One Million Additional College Graduates with Degrees in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.” OLI director Candace Thille served on the working group to produce the report. This report provides a strategy for improving STEM education during the first two years of college that we believe is responsive to both the challenges and the opportunities that this crucial stage in the STEM education pathway presents. The report will be released at a public briefing that will take place in the auditorium of the American Association for the Advancement of Science at 1200 New York Avenue, NW, Washington DC (closest metro stop: Metro Center). The timing of this event is subject to change .

Producing Films for Social Change This is an intensive, hands-on editorial and production course in which students pitch their ideas and then research, report, produce, shoot, write, and edit their own short documentary films on social issues affecting the local community, the U.S., or the world. Readings and discussions focus on current news, media ethics, media literacy, the declining credibility of the press, journalists' responsibilities to the public, social justice issues, First Amendment principles, corporate media ownership, media images of women and people of color, and the powerful role of media (TV news, documentaries, new media, digital storytelling) as tools for civic engagement and positive social change. Even though the notes, homework and tests are not directly printed in the berkeley website, as they are in MIT and other courseware sites, it's not a problem to find them. I personally tried to use it for John Wawrzynek's machine structures class and the nutrition courses. Berkeley Videos are in .rm format and real player can be a pain.
