I'm using the term "story starters" to mean beginnings, or lead-ins. Stories are dynamic, tight, small packages that yield big, and as first impressions mean everything, the first lines must suggest that the best is yet to come, or the story fails from the start. Every opening is unique, and there is no formula for an opening passage. Some authors will jump right into the action. Others will pan in from the outside like a long film shot moving in close from somewhere up in the sky. Others begin with startling statments or intense dialogue, perhaps even humour. http://www.be-a-better-writer.com/story-starters.html

Right-brained Writing Prompts

In 2001, we launched the WritingFix website with twenty-one interactive prompts. Many of those original prompts became our "Right-brained Prompt Collection," which has always been housed on this page. Since the beginning of WritingFix, this page of prompts has been one of our most popular destinations for writers! WritingFix believes this: No one writes with just the right side of his/her brain.

25 Ways To Fuck With Your Characters - StumbleUpon

As storyteller, you are god. And to be frank, you’re not a particularly nice god — at least, not if you want your story to resonate with readers. A good storyteller is a crass and callous deity who treats the characters under his watchful eye like a series of troubled butt-puppets. http://terribleminds.com/ramble/2011/08/02/25-ways-to-fuck-with-your-characters/
