Tulle Socks. Things you need for this DIY:❂ tulle❂ liner/invisible socks❂ a needle and thread❂ rhinestones (optional) I used these and these.❂ glue (for the rhinestones) Total time: 1.5 hours I've been OBSESSED with Marchesa's tulle socks since I saw them a few years ago. Pretty pretty pretty! Use the pattern above to cut out your tulle.
Sew the piece into a loop. Then, while wearing your little sock, sew the wonky end along the edge of the sock. If you want them to be sparkly, glue on some rhinestones before you start sewing. Done! Personalized Candy Jars. Anthro Mugs. So "knock off" week was fun for me at SYTYC, because I got to make something that I couldn't afford to buy!! Ha! Ok maybe you can afford to shop at Anthropologie, but not me. And even if I can buy it, something inside of me screams, Anthropologie Homegrown Monogram Mugs I had been eying these mugs for a long time and thought that this challenge would be the perfect time to make them. I started out with some simple white mugs, ceramic paint, and floral stamps. I did some bigger mugs too, because let's be honest I drink a lot more coffee than those small mugs will hold!
A Wallet. I've had so many great comments about my new pretty wallet that I wanted to do a tutorial for all of you that would like to make one of your own. Thanks SO much for all of your sweet words. They mean so much to me. Here is what you will need: Outside fabric 9 x 14 inches Front flap 9 x 7 1/2 inches Inside pockets 9 x 14 inches Interfacing (half the size of the outside and flap fabric) Button Hair tie Take your outside piece (9x14), and your front flap piece(9x7 1/2) and fold in half.
You will fold it width wise (top to bottom) not length (side to side). Iron on your interfacing to one half of both pieces. Shown below. Take your flap piece, and sew your button on to the side with your interfacing. Take your large piece for your pocket, and fold to make your card holder slots. Here are the sizes of mine. Now you are ready to put it together. Next you will lay your pocket fabric down, with pockets face down, on top of the back of your flap piece.
Flip your fabric right side out now. Fold Over Clutch. Fold over clutches are super popular right now. I whipped this one up in about 30 minutes. There are tons of tutorials out there on how to make pouches. This is basically the same thing, just make it a little longer for the fold over part. I got the lace separately from the black fabric and sewed them together. I love the chunky gold zipper! I think it makes it look more expensive. I love a quick and easy sewing project! Sunglasses clutch. I have an awful habit of losing sunglasses. Needless to say, I’ve accumulated an impressive collection of sunglass cases over the years. Recently we’ve discovered that these abandoned containers can easily by re-purposed into fabulous mini clutches! Inspired by those spotted during Milan and Paris Fashion Weeks, we made a super simple minaudière with just a few tools and a fancy piece of hardware. Open the sunglass case and drill a hole in the top center.
Run the drill through the hole a few times in order to make the opening wide enough to fit the drawer pull. Trim the screw of the drawer pull with the bolt cutter, leaving only half an inch. Easy. Perfect for all the essentials . . . minimalism at its best! (top image from style.com, rest of images by Honestly…WTF) Price tags. Mud bowl. Lace Doily Bowl. A little while back I was searching for doilies – not the paper kind, nice crochet and lace doilies – for a DIY project. I finally found some online, so I ordered a bunch figuring I’d use them for something. Sure enough, inspiration struck soon after and I decided to make some into bowls! I had heard of covering balloons with them to make really pretty lanterns (similar to our “thought bubbles”), and it turns out you can make a doily into a bowl using a very similar technique.
What you need: doilies (I ordered them from this website), fabric stiffener (I found this at A.C. If you have a bowl and doilies already and don’t want to purchase fabric stiffener, you can make your own! This DIY is as easy as 1,2,3: Turn your bowl upside down, soak the doily in fabric stiffener, and drape the doily on the bottom of the bowl. Use your fingers to smooth the doily over the bowl, removing any wrinkles and pushing out excess fabric stiffener.
Experiment with different shapes and sizes! Antiqued Mirror-display. Do you love all things chippy & vintage like me? Well if so this quick craft is right up your ally. I am currently obsessed with antique mirrors, but after doing some research I am not impressed with the prices of store bought pieces nor the harsh chemicals used to make them your self. So what to do, what to do.... be creative! I read many tutorials on how to make your own mercury glass and it seemed like I could transfer the basics to create a faux antiqued mirror. My inspiration.... What you need: Thrift store picture frames with glass. What to do: Take the glass out of the frame and clean. Thanks for stopping by! Mirror stand-display. Book page fabric. I love the look of old book pages. The toasty brown edges and pale centers of the pages pair perfectly with the stark black type.
Simple design with such a vintage feel, but so fragile and brittle. To fix their fragility, I coated the paper with silicone. This technique preserves the fragile pages, making them flexible, waterproof and durable with a feel similar to oilcloth. CLICK HERE for the full how-to after the jump! This Reader Request Maeg-it Yourself was inspired by and made for Kaitlyn who submitted the Amanda Pearl Vintage Crystal & Grosgrain Necklace $298.00. Thank you Kaitlyn, and Congrats! And for the rest of you …an easy DIY. * Crystals {I like the plastic ones, they’re safer but you can find real/glass/vintage crystals in this shape at flea markets, specifically, if you’re in LA, the Rose Bowl} …I had a few left over from My Prada Inspired Chandelier Necklace so I’m using more rectangular cuts than the octagonal shapes of the original necklace.
I think any will work though, as long as they get the point across. {you may also want to know that these crystals hung at our wedding reception in 2006 ;}* Grosgrain ribbon {I went with a brighter Kelly green rather than a Chartreuse, so fresh for Spring!} * …then tying a double knot. Just in time for St. Shrinky dink necklace. Finally got around to using my Shrinky Dinks! My inspiration comes from these wonderful clown eyelashes that I stumbled across online. This just goes to show you that you can find inspiration anywhere! Eyelashes available here! I printed the above picture at 50% of the original size & used that as my guide. Supplies: (under $7 from amazon) black sharpie scissors hole punch jump rings chain & clasp pliers & the use of an oven. Other cool shrinky dinks necklaces... super duper. Bugle necklace. I’m in London at the moment doing a quick photoshoot, and will be back in Warsaw by Tuesday.
Apologies to the Warsaw-love post right below, but it’s fantastic to be back; I guess it really takes to be away from a place to truly appreciate it. Owh goodness, I’m so spoiled. Anyway I thought I’d post how my geometric necklace turned out – tutorial here by Dnyce. I wanted the necklace to be somewhat asymmetric, but being a n00b and all, didn’t realise that it’s not that simple in jewellery architecture, so had to improvise with chains… Huge respect to Dnyce and those others savvy for jewellery construction; it surprisingly requires a lot of logic and craftsmanship, neither of which I posess in great dosage.
Braided Bead Necklace. I couldn't have predicted so many jewelry posts. What can I say? I get on kicks. I saw a necklace like this in a store but it was shorter and the braid contained different kinds of beads. I wanted it longer with one type of bead. An amount of beads, it's hard to say how many, I used about 4 more beads than this jar holds. Next, take two strands of beads and thread the two threads through one bead tip. Repeat for each pair and then repeat on the opposite end, making sure to get the knot as close to the bead tip as possible. Clamp three of the ends to one large jump ring. The braiding part is a little tricky if you don't secure your beads strands to something.
*Finally, the note about the clasp. Triangle necklace. Today I'm sharing another super simple necklace I made recently... a two-tone triangle necklace. (If you missed the first necklace, check it out here.) I've been having lots of fun with polymer clay lately. It's so EASY to use! I even have a few more project ideas up my sleeve. ;) What you'll need: First, condition your clay (roll between your hands until it's soft and pliable). Once you're happy with the shape, place on a baking sheet and bake at 275 for about 20 minutes. Wear your new necklace(s) proudly! I ended up making a solid gold triangle too, so I could layer them. Helpful Notes + Tips: // Work on a clean surface! Hinge necklace. Vintage Brooch Necklace!
Anthro-Inspired Vintage Brooch Necklace! Gorgeous for the Holidays!!! Here's Anthro's Majorelle Necklace. I don't know what original cost was...because they are SOLD OUT! But they are on ebay for about $70 Here's how to get the look for less! You will need: *twisted rope cord (mine is a champagne color) *pinch bails/end caps and a lobster clasp *3 brooches or jewels of some kind *E6000 glue *Pearl Strand (optional) I had everything on hand! Wrap tape around your rope before cutting to desired length.
Mine's 16 inches. Cut in the center of the tape to prevent fraying. Because my rope wasn't as thick as the Anthro rope...I used a string of pearls to add awesome. I tied the string of pearls off at the top. Then twisted around the rope. Like this... I set the brooches on the rope just to see if it was good or not. I used pinch bails on the ends...because that is what I had. The necklace part is finished! Set your necklace on a surface that is flexible, in case it gets glue on it. Done! Gorgeous! Thread Wrapped Love Necklace. I opted for a charm instead of a tassel, but you can obviously use whatever you'd like. Check out how I made it below! Supplies: - Craft wire (I used 24 gauge) - Embroidery thread, one skein - Scissors - Round nosed jewelry pliers - Chain (length is up to you) - Clear nail polish (you'll use this in more than one way!)
- Jump rings and jewelry clasp (optional) - Charm or tassel (optional, not shown) - Ruler (not shown) 1) Cut a length of wire. 2) Keeping the skein of thread in tact/in the packaging (this makes it easier to work with), tightly tie the thread near the loop you just made. 3) Begin tightly wrapping the thread around the wire. 4) Continue wrapping the thread, until you've reached about 9 (or so) inches of wrapped wire. 5) Tightly triple or quadruple knot the thread. 6) Cut off the excess thread, and secure the knot with clear nail polish. 7) Cut off the excess wire, leaving about half an inch. 8) Go back to the end that you started with, and cut off the excess thread.
