The goal of this trip is to pack in as much fun and adventure that 11 days of adventure motorcycling allows in the South African Cape, keeping the balance between a holiday and maximising adventure riding, avoiding cities and traffic. The ride traverses 40 passes! Of the 3500 km 50% will be on gravel. We ease into the ride by riding to the Atlantic Ocean staying at Paternoster. Then on into the Cederberg and over the mountains into the Tankwa Karoo for a night. From there a lot of dirt down to the coast at the Wilderness. From the sea, inland to more passes and some really exciting adventure riding testing yourself through the Baviaanskloof nature reserve back down to the seaside where we are based for two days. From here we head out for a days game viewing to see all the big five and many more animal species, then back to relax again.

Finding Joy in an Unlikely Place - Exploring South Africa’s Cape Peninsula. There are some places on this great planet that just resonate with our souls on a very base, almost instinctual level. There’s no rhyme or reason to this metaphysical travel experience, it can happen anywhere at anytime to anyone. I’ve been fortunate enough to feel that special surge of electricity run through my body a few times, but most recently it happened on a trip to South Africa’s Cape Peninsula near Cape Town. Hugging the coastline, passing through small fishing communities and villages that had been commandeered by retirees instead of sailors, our van never strayed far from Table Mountain National Park.
The look and feel of it though definitely changed and as we drove through the Cape of Good Hope entrance to the park, I wondered into which world we had slipped. I turned off on the Simons Town main road and snaked my way down the coast, finally turned off at Millers Point and made my way over the hill and down to the tidal pool. There was not another living soul close by- I had the pool all to myself. My immediate thought was that I wouldn’t see too much, ocean meditation was more important than the sea life below. But the ocean was happy to comply and provided me with some jaw dropping sights and great visibility. It’s a stunning way to spend a weekend morning. Muizenberg. Holiday-makers' paradise This laid-back seaside town on the shores of False Bay comes alive in season, with holiday-makers crowding its streets as they make their way down to what is perhaps Cape Town’s nicest swimming beach. Although Muizenberg beach lacks the dazzling turquoise ocean and dramatic boulders of beaches like Clifton and Llandudno, it is much warmer to swim here than at the beaches on the Atlantic Seaboard.
It is flat, wide, and the water is generally calm – so is very child-friendly. It’s also a popular surfing spot, although the waves aren’t enormous.
