Located on the banks of the river Seine, facing Ile Saint-Germain, the project meets the requirements of highly demanding sustainable development specifications.

With their simple volumetry, the specificity of the housing units lies in the handling of the external spaces which extend beyond the facades to create zinc “boxes” positioned to take advantage of the views and sunlight. The use of a concrete double wall providing both an attractive finish and insulation is a first for this type of high density programme. To ensure urban coherence, the residential hotel is constructed from the same materials. Mar Adentro / Miguel Angel Aragonés. Social Housing in Pamplona / Pereda Pérez Arquitectos. Architects Location Calle Descalzos, 24, 31001 Pamplona, Navarra, Spain Architects in Charge Carlos Pereda Iglesias, Óscar Pérez Silanes Photographs Collaborator Teresa Gridilla Surveyor Atec Constructor Construcciones A.Erro y Eugui From the architect. The project is located on the north limit of the old town of Pamplona, at the end of the plateau where it is placed, next to Ronda Promenade, the limit of the medieval walled area. This project has been promoted by the public administration, in order to revitalize the most degraded zone of the old town within the municipal housing plan. The project was included within a high interest urban plan.

The program consisted basically of apartments to be used as rehousing, which specific detail of the program was unknown at the time of the competition. Besides the initial uncertainty of the program, the design of the competition aimed, as starting point, for an organizational strategy to solve the necessities of the future rehousing. Arauco is a forestry company that called us in 2009 to develop a plan to support their workers in the process to have access to their definitive house.

We were asked to develop a set of typologies within the current housing policy for Fondo Solidario de Vivienda I (FSV I, units up to 600 UF or US$25,000 without debt) and for FSV II (units up to 1,000 UF or US$40,000 with a bank loan). These designs would be a contribution of the company to their workers, a kind of subvention, so that housing committees could use them when applying for the regular system of public funds. Following the client’s decision to use a “Design-build” procedure that corresponded to the cost and scheduling issues, we had to work smartly and collectively to implement inventive strategies.

Les Bassins à flot Les Bassins à flot is an exceptional area in Bordeaux because of its maritime and manufacturing past and its patrimonial nature. The entire venue was added to UNESCO's World Heritage Site list in 2007. It is also singular for the position it occupies in the Bordeaux urban development project.

This meant not continuous strips of land that characterize the Chartrons district and not copying the rationale of a small island with the landscaped interior gardens of the Bacalan district. A Changing Block The Achard-Blanqui-Étranger block fits into a fairly nearby environment that is in full mutation. Archium - Project - Persona. Does the shape of space have to have inevitable order? What meanings do the basic conditions such as history and shape of land and rules and forms which determines the space have? Is the promise to observe rules valid? Furthermore, does such thing exist? What is universal value? Is it implied consent made by ordinary perspective to deal with them in a familiar and convenient way? What would be possible if stereotype is given up? It becomes it naturally. Is the shape in architectural work supposed to be the result of response to the given condition?

Since the reason for it to be done in such a way is the consequence of my emotion, is it inevitable for me regardless of universality and which response it will induce? The competition required us to adhere to specific restrictions: alignments with the existing urban fabric, the site’s chamfered corner, setbacks for attics, and specific building heights.

In the surrounding neighborhood, these constraints have created very monotonous and repetitive buildings that differ from each other merely by the color of brick used in their construction.
