Located on the banks of the river Seine, facing Ile Saint-Germain, the project meets the requirements of highly demanding sustainable development specifications. With their simple volumetry, the specificity of the housing units lies in the handling of the external spaces which extend beyond the facades to create zinc “boxes” positioned to take advantage of the views and sunlight. The use of a concrete double wall providing both an attractive finish and insulation is a first for this type of high density programme.

The project is located on the north limit of the old town of Pamplona, at the end of the plateau where it is placed, next to Ronda Promenade, the limit of the medieval walled area. This project has been promoted by the public administration, in order to revitalize the most degraded zone of the old town within the municipal housing plan. The project was included within a high interest urban plan. The program consisted basically of apartments to be used as rehousing, which specific detail of the program was unknown at the time of the competition. Besides the initial uncertainty of the program, the design of the competition aimed, as starting point, for an organizational strategy to solve the necessities of the future rehousing.

Arauco is a forestry company that called us in 2009 to develop a plan to support their workers in the process to have access to their definitive house. We were asked to develop a set of typologies within the current housing policy for Fondo Solidario de Vivienda I (FSV I, units up to 600 UF or US$25,000 without debt) and for FSV II (units up to 1,000 UF or US$40,000 with a bank loan).

These designs would be a contribution of the company to their workers, a kind of subvention, so that housing committees could use them when applying for the regular system of public funds. What meanings do the basic conditions such as history and shape of land and rules and forms which determines the space have? Is the promise to observe rules valid?

Furthermore, does such thing exist? What is universal value? Is it implied consent made by ordinary perspective to deal with them in a familiar and convenient way? What would be possible if stereotype is given up? Zeller & Moye Designs "Flower Terraces" Housing in Ruichang. Mexico City and Berlin-based Zeller & Moye has won the international competition MOLEWA (Mount Lu Estate of World Architecture) to design new housing in Ruichang.

Organized by UIA (Unión Internacional de Arquitectos) and Hua Yan Group, the competition received entries from more than 40 countries. With an "innovative housing design that sets new standards in low-energy use," Zeller & Moye's "Flower Terraces" will be built in the heart of the circular Chinese city by 2016. Read on to learn more about the competition-winning project. From the architects: Referring to traditional Chinese housing motifs, the Flower Terraces arrange living areas as individual volumes around green outdoor spaces. The individually shaped apartments let the residents sense that they live in a unique "house," rather than a numbered unit along a corridor. The competition required us to adhere to specific restrictions: alignments with the existing urban fabric, the site’s chamfered corner, setbacks for attics, and specific building heights. In the surrounding neighborhood, these constraints have created very monotonous and repetitive buildings that differ from each other merely by the color of brick used in their construction. The Iceberg / CEBRA + JDS + SeARCH + Louis Paillard Architects.

Architects: SeARCH, CEBRA, JDS, Louis Paillard Architects Location: Mariane Thomsens Gade, 8000 Aarhus C, Denmark Area: 22000.0 sqm Year: 2013 Photographs: Mikkel Frost, Soeren Kjaer Collaborators: NCC, Tækker R.I., Hamiconsult Client: PensionDanmark From the architect. The Iceberg is located at a prime location on the outmost harbour front in Aarhus’ new quarter Aarhus Ø (Aarhus East) and consists of 208 apartments. Like many other worn-out industrial harbour areas, the former container port of Aarhus is being transformed into a vibrant new neighbourhood. The Iceberg is among the first projects to be finished in an area that on completion will be home to 7,000 inhabitants and provide 12,000 workplaces.

The inspiration for the Iceberg originated primarily from the site’s extraordinary location with spectacular views over the Aarhus Bay. Dekleva Gregoric Arhitekti - Project - Elderly center izola. The characteristics of the parcel, located in Livad (Izola), allow functional duality proposed for the new elderly apartments and social centre, thanks to the proximity of sport centre, new university campus, elementary school and elderly housings. “Mini Atrium House” is proposed with the objective of providing comfort, well being and appropriated lighting inside the apartments, combining different units to get optimal building functionality. The displacement of each unit and the two orientations of the lodge allow having two views from each apartment and improve the climatic behaviour of units, reducing the heat loss. Vir.mueller architects - Project - Saxena Apartments.

The Saxena apartments are designed to accommodate three families within two typologically distinct apartments - single floor and duplex. Our design chose to work within the fabric and scale of the context, anchoring this building firmly between a neighboorhood park on the north and a busy street on the west. Each apartment is envisioned as a container of sunlight, mapping the changing intensity of the sun on a highly reflective limestone floor. Rooms are organized around an interior “plaza”, eliminating circulation corridors and faciliating visual links between the rooms to the park and street outside. Ooda Flat. After months of an “arduous” public reviewing process, BIG’s eye-catching West 57th apartment building in Manhattan has been approved by the City Planning Commission. The atypical design quickly gained international attention with its abruptly sloped, tetrahedral shape that rises from three stories to thirty-eight stories on an awkwardly sized single block site.

Cleverly titled W57, the unique project was “born of logic”, as New York Magazine’s Justin Davidson would describe. It features a massive, football-sized courtyard with stunning Hudson River views and outdoor terraces for all 753 residents, along with a vibrant street life and close proximity to the Hudson River Park. ‘La Casa’ Permanent Supportive Housing (6) (199275)
