The program consisted basically of apartments to be used as rehousing, which specific detail of the program was unknown at the time of the competition. Besides the initial uncertainty of the program, the design of the competition aimed, as starting point, for an organizational strategy to solve the necessities of the future rehousing. Following the client’s decision to use a “Design-build” procedure that corresponded to the cost and scheduling issues, we had to work smartly and collectively to implement inventive strategies. Edificio Fray León / Jorge Figueroa + Asociados. O edifício Fray León é um pequeno conjunto de 9 apartamentos localizado no setor de San Damián, na comuna de Las Condes; Santiago do Chile. A proposta arquitetônica consiste em quebrar um corpo em fragmentos pequenos que gerem volumes e corpos únicos e identificáveis, sem repetir, praticamente sem modular. Se trabalha a forma de maneira a gerar identidade e pertencimento. Cada apartamento tem sua particularidade e sua característica. O mais relevante da proposta é o espaço público e de acesso que se gera através de uma grande praça seca e que reúne os dois núcleos de circulação vertical. Esta praça é formada por planos de muros soltos, separados da estrutura principal do edifício e separados da área claramente "habitável", criando um pé direito duplo que protege e da uma sensação de maior intimidade ao interior dos apartamentos.
Estes muros criam um espaço escultórico, uma praça significativa, uma área de contemplação muito pouco habitual neste tipo de projeto. Redline signé Pietri Architectes. Il s’agit de trois volumes distincts liés par le socle d’une part et via deux ailes d’autre part qui sont marquées par l’horizontalité des terrasses eux-mêmes ponctuées de placards séparatifs externes respectant ainsi l’intimité de chaque appartement. Outre la vue exceptionnelle, les habitations donnent vers un jardin méditerranéen qui constitue le cœur de l’îlot et invite à la contemplation. On y trouve même un surprenant belvédère, une délicieuse chambrette avec une ouverture vers le large.
