Long ago, there were 10 suns. Each day, the sky goddess would choose one to drive across the sky in her chariot. The other nine suns would play all day. One day, all the suns decided to go up together and the heat of all of them together was so strong that it caused a terrible drought. A great archer was given 10 magical arrows to shoot them out of the sky. According to the story, the only reason that we don't live in perpetual darkness, is that someone stole one of the arrows. Beginning Needlepoint - All about Needlepoint. Ombre Embroidery Sampler Tutorial | Needle & Cloth. I love ombre. Whether it’s on a dress, or on a wall, I just love the effect. And for a while now I’ve been mulling over the idea of creating an ombre embroidery sampler. (I should add here that WordPress wants me to correct “ombre” to “hombre”. I think that would be a very different piece of embroidery.) What’s great about this piece is that you could achieve very different effects by changing the thread colours, or even the background fabric. For a really dramatic look, you could try pink threads on a black background, or else orange on white would have great retro look. If you’d like to make a sampler of your own, here’s what you need: Hints: You can use any type of fabric, but working with an evenweave fabric such as linen means you can stitch along the grainlines to achieve a neat, straight result.

Getting startedFirstly, if you’re worried about your fabric fraying, you can stitch along the edges with a zigzag stitch the secure them. Print out the line placement guide. Star-Shaped and Shiny: An Embroidered Notebook. One of the most difficult parts of crafting is finding fresh ways to use old techniques. Many needlecraft companies are experiencing a surge in sales of kits for cushions, tea cosies and other three-dimensional items, and a cursory glance at any craft magazine will attest to the trend. But what happens when you want a small project, something quick to stitch, maybe to give as a gift? Well, you could try stitching a notebook. A small cross-stitch motif or simple blackwork pattern can turn an ordinary Moleskine journal into a work of art worthy to hold all your crafty ideas and sketches.

The best part? The Moleskine cahiers are available with plain, lined and squared paper inside, so when you’re done, you can use your journal to plan your next projects. Once you’ve got your notebook, you’ll need a piece of squared paper or graph paper to use as a grid. Next, take a sharp pin and pierce where the lines on the paper intersect. There!
