Shimano MT22 MTB SPD Shoes. Acid/Alkaline Theory of Disease Is Nonsense. Gabe Mirkin, M.D. Have you seen advertisements for products such as coral calcium or alkaline water that are supposed to neutralize acid in your bloodstream? Taking calcium or drinking alkaline water does not affect blood acidity. Anyone who tells you that certain foods or supplements make your stomach or blood acidic does not understand nutrition. You should not believe that it matters whether foods are acidic or alkaline, because no foods change the acidity of anything in your body except your urine. Your stomach is so acidic that no food can change its acidity. All foods that leave your stomach are acidic. Dietary modification cannot change the acidity of any part of your body except your urine. All chemical reactions in your body are started by chemicals called enzymes.

For example, when you hold your breath, carbon dioxide accumulates in your bloodstream very rapidly and your blood turns acidic, and you will become uncomfortable or even pass out. Dr. Dangers of Milk. “Throughout our schools children are taught that milk products are an essential part of a balanced diet.” On this website, milk will have an identity crisis. After all, milk is accustomed to preferential treatment, given its own food group by the Food Guide; so, out of respect, I will devote some time talking about the huge place milk has in the North American diet. Throughout our schools children are taught that milk products are an essential part of a balanced diet.

Walk into any school and you will find posters, cow balloons, giant milk cartons and sports celebrities donning tall white glasses of frothy milk, all generously supplied by the Dairy Board. There is even a National Dairy Awareness Week to celebrate how much milk is a part of our North American culture. In my little country school, chocolate milk is sold every day by students, the proceeds going toward the grade eight graduation trip. Calcium Calcium is in all whole foods. How can this be true? Here is the key.

Review: Aaron’s Surly Troll with Rohloff Speedhub | pushing the pedals. Aaron G, friend and Himalaya companion, recently built up a Surly Troll for our trip next month to India. Here’s his review! UPDATE! Long Term Review can be seen HERE. Introduction If you spend enough time hanging out with Daniel Molloy you will eventually find yourself building up a Rohloff touring bike. Being almost six two, I opted for the 20’’ frame size, as I like my bikes on the smaller side and upright. The Troll frame comes only in bright orange, which draws attention to the impressive dropouts, as well as every other braze-on, and mount. Not being one for bright colors, I took the frame to West Coast Powder Coat in South San Francisco and a few days later the bike was Fir Green (RAL 6009). Magic! Build Though many miles would undoubtedly be spent commuting in and around San Francisco, the true goal of this bike build was to have an off-road capable touring machine to replace my primarily road touring bike, a Soma Saga.

Rohloff Speedhub Impressions Shredability Word! Home Made Power Gels - Energy for Less : Articles. 1. Introduction I think we all recognize that power (energy) gels are a convenient way to get extra needed calories, easily and quickly, into our bodies during endurance activities. There are alternatives, but sometimes you just don't have the energy or the stomach to eat solid food (especially at 3:00 am). I am sure we have all forced down dry power bars while hiking, trying to catch your breath between bites, trying to wash it down quickly with water, breathing heavily through your nose all the while.

Power gels go down easier, are quick, do no take a lot of chewing and are easy on your stomach. But, they are not cheap. John Allred, PhD, food science communicator for the Institute of Food Technologists, simply shakes his head at the mention of energy products. 2. Squeeze Tube full of Home made Gel You can use barely malt syrup if available instead of brown rice syrup. Organic prefered for all ingredients. 1 tube = 300 grams. 3. The following lists the glycemic index of sugars. 4. 4.1. Hazelnut Chocolate Cake {Raw/Vegan} Saturday night we had a special dinner with family friends. For one weekend all 8 of us were around before starting vacations and school again; one of is even spending a year studying at Oxford(no, it’s not me; yes, I’m jealous).

That called for cake. I had been wanting to make this recipe for a while and wanted to wait until just the right celebration. Everyone loved it, although when I told them the frosting involved avocado you would have thought I told them my own hair was in it. They started eating it again 2 seconds later when they remembered how good it was and decided you couldn’t taste the avocado. I actually made this cake for Father’s Day last year and featured it as a guest post on Gena’s blog.

Since then I’d completely forgotten about it and had to go look it up to remember how to make it. Jon Bardgett and Nicola Davies cycled 29215km across Europe, the Middle East and Central Asia to arrive at their destination of Ulaanbaatar, the capital of Mongolia. Jon rode on an On-One Inbred Slot-Dropout frame- here's his enthralling account of their 15 month odyssey... We had the usual reasons for setting out on this trip… Holidays not long enough.

Fed up at work…. If we don’t do it now will we ever do it? The Bikes: Nic was using her old steel Salsa that has done many many trips. I have had had the Inbred for about 3 years and had first used it on a trip to Iceland. I had fitted the bike with a Rohloff by simply beefing up the lower left hand part of the drop out. Nic used mostly the same gear but no trailer, an 8 speed shimano set up and vee brake on the back because the frame had no mounts. The Way Out: We set off at the end of July 2009, this was later than we had hoped due to me having to finish my job. Through the Altai and to our goal Mongolia. The WayBack: What next? Print Version - Five Tibetan Rites. By Mary Kurus Copyright Mary Kurus 2001, All Rights Reserved Background In 1985 a book called The Ancient Secret of the Fountain of Youth written by Peter Kelder was published which for the first time fully described an exercise program for "youthing".

This is an exercise program used by Tibetan monks to live long, vibrant and healthy lives. Potential Benefits of the Five Rites The authors provide many examples of the benefits of the "Five Tibetan Rites" including the following: looking much younger; sleeping soundly; waking up feeling refreshed and energetic; release from serious medical problems including difficulties with spines; relief from problems with joints; release from pain; better memory; arthritis relief; weight loss; improved vision; youthing instead of aging; greatly improved physical strength, endurance and vigor; improved emotional and mental health; enhanced sense of well being and harmony; and very high overall energy.

How the Five Rites Work Chakras Detoxification Rite #1. Top 10 Foods Highest in Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin) Vitamin B-12, or Cobalamin, is the largest and most complex vitamin currently known to man. A slight deficiency of vitamin B-12 can lead to anemia, fatigue, mania, and depression, while a long term deficiency can cause permanent damage to the brain and central nervous system. Vitamin B12 can only be manufactured by bacteria and can only be found naturally in animal products, however, synthetic forms are widely available and added to many foods like cereals. Vitamin B12 can be consumed in large doses because excess is excreted by the body or stored in the liver for use when supplies are scarce.

Stores of B12 can last for up to a year. Below are the top 10 foods highest in vitamin B12 by common serving sizes, click here for high vitamin B12 foods by nutrient density, here for an extended list of vitamin B12 rich foods, and here for other foods high in vitamin B. Does Alcohol Really Boil Away in Cooking? How long does it take for alcohol to burn off during cooking? Is this time the same for all forms of alcohol? Boil? Simmer? How about in baking? Yours may be the question of the year. We started looking through a bunch of authoritative cookbooks to see what they said.

Two dozen other major cookbooks we looked at did not address the issue at all. We still weren’t satisfied though. What we found out has really surprised us. A study conducted by the US Department of Agriculture’s Nutrient Data Laboratory calculated the percentage of alcohol remaining in a dish based on various cooking methods. Now, it may be that the amount of alcohol in a dish is modest to start with, but the fact that some of the alcohol remains could be of significant concern to recovering alcoholics, parents, and others who have ethical or religious reasons for avoiding alcohol.

The Raw Food Diet: A Raw Deal. American ingenuity has found one solution to the energy crisis: food you never need to cook. There's no need for fuel when everything you eat---from salad to, well, more salad—is served up at piping room temperature. I'm speaking of the raw food diet, for those who find the vegan lifestyle of no animal food products far too opulent. This is particularly popular in, where else, California, yet it's making its way across the country.

On one level, the raw diet has much going for it. One another level, this is just whacked. Natural: A dangerous word Like many alternative diets, the raw food diet is grounded on a few solid principles. A primary claim among raw food advocates is that the raw diet is a natural diet. After all, no other animal cooks its food, and humans only started cooking after the domestication of fire.

That said, humans have always eaten some cooked food. Cooking up claims Another main claim by raw food advocates is that heat (from cooking) destroys enzymes in the food. Radwanderung... Cococnut Oil. Contents Introduction Coconut oil and, to only a slightly lesser extent, palm kernel oil is far better for us than we have generally been led to believe.

Coconut oil consists almost entirely of saturated fat -- about 92% -- which sounds pretty bad on the surface. But not all saturated fats are created equal. In particular, note that: Coconut oil is good for cooking, because saturated fat is not harmed by heat -- unlike unsaturated oils, as explained in What's Wrong with Partially Hydrogenated Oils? Notes: Coconut oil and fractionated palm kernel oil are very similar, and come from different parts of the same plant. It Melts In Your Hand Coconut oil becomes a liquid at 76-degrees Fahrenheit. But the difference becomes apparent when you pick up a little and rub it between your fingers. It turns out that coconut oil is so effective at providing energy and at protecting the body from disease-causing microbes that it's used in baby formulas, intravenous fluids, and sports endurance snacks.

Treniņi tiek iedalīti piecās sporta zonās, intensitāti aprēķinot kā procentus no maksimālā SR. Izmantojot sporta zonu funkciju var viegli izvēlēties vēlamo intensitāti un to izmantot treniņā kā gidu. !

Technique: Cadence Matters. By Joe Beer | Wednesday, May 14, 2008 11.00pm Learning what cadence works best for you can significantly improve your efficiency Robert Smith Photography Cycling is a simple sport really. To break it down into its simplest controllable factors you can vary your effort (heart rate), gearing (front and rear combination) and pedal cadence (revolutions per minute). There are the obvious additional controllable factors of whether you ride on- or off-road and the hilliness of the terrain you choose to cover, but the principle still applies - speed is a function of your effort, your choice of gear and how fast or slow you decide to spin. For example, you can get 30mph with minimal effort in 53x17 downhill, but you can be way up in Zone 3 (86% to 100% HR max), crawling at 9mph grinding your lowest gear if you’re going back up. But what is the best cadence in a given situation?

No substitute for training Round and round… Higher cadence equals better blood flow Ideas for working on cadence 1. 2. 3.
