How Did Life Begin? The Twelve Reasons I Don’t Believe in Supernatural Claims, Part I - Greatplay.net. Earlier, I wrote an essay called “What is Naturalism-Humanism?” Where I made it clear that I was a naturalist-humanist and outlined what that means. In summary, I deny supernatural claims, which are statements that {X} exists in physical, objective reality where {X} is something that is independent of arrangements of matter-energy within space-time to some degree. The layman’s definition would be claims that souls, miracles, and/or God exist, or that breaking/suspending the laws of physics is possible.

I’ve started a case against God in “Where is God?” And “The Great Problem of Evil”. But I reject all supernatural claims, not just God. The Twelve Reasons (Table of Contents) #1: Supernatural Claims Have a Track Record of Failure When we look back through history, one thing is clear — humanity has had a terrible track record of using supernatural claims. Humanity used to think that disease was the result of demons, something supernatural. Beliefs exist, more or less, to answer questions. Yahoo! Biblical Contradictions. Humility - Carl Sagan. God's Perfect Plan. List of Roman deities. A vast number of ancient Roman deities are known by name. The most familiar today are those the Romans identified with Greek counterparts (see interpretatio graeca), integrating Greek myths, iconography, and sometimes religious practices into Roman culture, including Latin literature, Roman art, and religious life as it was experienced throughout the Empire. Many of the Romans' own gods remain obscure, known only by name and function, through inscriptions and texts that are often fragmentary—particularly those who belong to the archaic religion of the Romans dating back to the era of kings, the so-called "religion of Numa," perpetuated or revived over the centuries. Some archaic deities have Italic or Etruscan counterparts, as identified both by ancient sources and by modern scholars.

Throughout the Empire, the deities of peoples in the provinces were given new theological interpretations in light of functions or attributes they shared with Roman deities. While laid-up at home over the weekend with health issues, I’ve had a chance to dig into this book I’ve had for a while called Godless: How an Evangelical Preacher Became One of America’s Leading Atheists. This guy was as deep into the Christian culture as one can get: raised that way from the start, leaving home at age 15 to preach on the streets, becoming a youth pastor, starting his own ministry, traveling town to town and living solely on donations from his sermons (even with two kids in tow), “healing” many and bringing countless people into his flock, writing many famous Christian songs and several full musicals for children…he’s done it all, and he was 100% convinced that he was doing the lord’s work and following a higher call.

And then…cracks began to form in his reality. In his 30s he began to have doubts and ask questions about the things he was teaching. I’m not even halfway through the book yet, and I’m already raving about it to people! So that’s my sort-of book review. A Quick and Easy Guide to God. Your thoughts? A South African scientist shows a tooth of Australopithecus sediba hidden in a rock excavated from an archaeological site three years ago. Also pictured is a copy of a skull of the same species that was discovered at the Malapa site in the Cradle of Humankind in 2009. Photo: AFP South African scientists claim to have uncovered the most complete skeleton yet of an ancient relative of man, hidden in a rock excavated from an archaeological site three years ago.

The remains of a juvenile hominid skeleton, of the newly identified Australopithecus (southern ape) sediba species, are the "most complete early human ancestor skeleton ever discovered", University of Witwatersrand palaeontologist Lee Berger said. The skeleton is thought to be about 2 million years old. The upright-walking tree climber would have been aged between nine and 13 years when he or she died. Advertisement "It appears that we now have some of the most critical and complete remains of the skeleton," Professor Berger said.
