Pesta, Ph.D., b.pesta@csuohio.edu MySpace Deletes Largest Atheist Group in the World. Cleveland, OH.- Social networking site, MySpace.com, panders to religious intolerants by deleting atheist users, groups and content.
Early this month, MySpace again deleted the Atheist and Agnostic Group (35,000 members). This deletion, due largely to complaints from people who find atheism offensive, marks the second time MySpace has cancelled the group since November 2007. What's unique in this case is that the Atheist and Agnostic Group was the largest collection of organized atheists in the world. "MySpace refuses to undelete the group, although it never violated any terms of service," said Bryan Pesta, Ph.D., the group's moderator.

Elephants Dream is the story of two strange characters exploring a capricious and seemingly infinite machine. The elder, Proog, acts as a tour-guide and protector, happily showing off the sights and dangers of the machine to his initially curious but increasingly skeptical protege Emo. As their journey unfolds we discover signs that the machine is not all Proog thinks it is, and his guiding takes on a more desperate aspect.
Elephants Dream is a story about communication and fiction, made purposefully open-ended as the world’s first 3D animated “Open movie”. The film itself is released under the Creative Commons license, along with the production files used to make it (roughly 7 Gigabytes of data). The software used to make the movie is the free/open source animation suite Blender, along with other open source software, thus allowing the movie to be remade, remixed and re-purposed. 2006, Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Searchles | Home. Alex Barnett's blog : Solving Tag-Hell. Backup Brain recently highlighted one of the problems with the tagosphere - the 'which tag do I use' problem. I say 'one' of the problems, because there are at least three tagospheric problems that are creating a Tag-Hell: 1.
When in content tagging mode which tag should I use for this post or photo? Example by Dori Smith: Even though a proposed tag was advertised to the MSN Search Champs event attendees, chaos reigned anyhow - that's human nature and not an atypical scenario. 2. "Nine different searches, nine different sets of results; but all of them are, at their heart, looking for the exact same thing. 3. The above tags are similar and they are different. Tag-Hell Solutions So as a possible solution, do we all delegate some uber-semantic-taxonomiz(s)ation-folkosonimis(z)ation-committee-slash-group to solve it on our behalf? Given that the people who are actually interested in this stuff can't even agree, do we really expect them to solve the problem for us? Tag Data Aggregate Tag Counts. The best free RSS and Atom feed reader. We love our smart phones and tablets - a lot . But the next time you take your phone to lunch, hand it to a coworker to share photos, or bring it to the gym, consider this: Bacteria from a phone can cause flu, pinkeye or diarrhea. Yuck. And people are just as likely to get sick from their phones as from handles of the bathroom. That's according to a physician interviewed by the Wall Street Journal about the hazards of taking your cell phone everywhere - and then passing it to friends to share an image or message. You don't have to be a germophobe to dread that bit of news. A lab tested eight randomly selected phones from a Chicago office and all phones showed abnormally high numbers of coliforms, a bacteria that indicates fecal contamination. Continue Reading Story » ListMixer - Throwaway Bookmarks. Feed reading. There are some great pieces of software out there dedicated to reading RSS, each with their own take on the task.
As a Mac user, I’m spoiled for choice with NetNewsWire, NewsFire and Shrook to choose from. Then there are the myriad online feed readers like Bloglines, Newshutch and Google Reader. They’re all pretty slick as long as you’ve got a relatively well-specced machine with a JavaScript-capable browser. But I’ve never found an RSS reader that I’ve been completely satisfied with. I find all too often that the experience reminds of using an email client. Reading email can be an enjoyable activity but more often than not, it’s all about getting the unread count in your inbox down to zero, right? I gave up on feed readers for quite a while and just started reading the few feeds I’ve gathered together at Adactio Elsewhere. I quite like the way the “favorites”(sic) feature on Technorati works. I didn’t think there was any new way to catch up on RSS feeds until James set me straight. Lists Tagged internet. Feed For Free) : Upgrade to paid service.
Below is the comparison matrix for Feed43 paid plans. You can later switch between paid plans at any time. Payments are processed securely via ShareIt! Service (all major payment methods are accepted, including PayPal). As soon as ShareIt! Verifies the payment, we will send you the activation code by email (this is not immediate and typically takes 1 business day). We also have a set of VPS plans for users with higher demands. When you upgrade to one of these plans, we will transfer your account and feeds to a separate Feed43 server with a limited number of users for better performance. We can also adjust VPS plan settings to your needs (for example, provide faster updates and proportionally less number of paid feeds at the same price).
If you want to upgrade to one of our VPS plans, please contact us, and we will provide you a purchase link and set up your VPS account. 1 All prices are given in US dollars. 2 This is a maximum number of paid feeds. TagCloud. Feed Digest : Mix, convert, and republish feeds.
All About RSS | Note This page is about using RSS and Atom, from a non-technical standpoint. If you are interested in creating RSS feeds, see this RSS Workshop, or Atom for Publishers for Atom. If you are interested in creating an RSS or Atom reader, see the Aggregators Yahoo! Group. See also the note about Atom below. What is RSS? RSS can actually be explained in three words, which you’ll find bolded in the second paragraph… Before you go any further, realize this: RSS is really simple. RSS is a text-based format, a type of XML. When a website has an RSS feed, it is said to be “syndicated.” What is Atom? Atom is a format quite similar to RSS. The RSS Format This was explained above. . * Note that this example is a simplified version of an actual RSS feed; neither RSS nor Atom looks quite like this.
Glossary Most of the terms here are explained above or below. RSS = Really Simple Syndication = Rich Site Summary = RDF Site Summary = who cares? What Can I do with RSS? RSS feeds by themselves don’t do much. And . Google Page Creator. Opmlmanager.com. Del.icio.us Reading Lists. Summary : this tells you how you can easily create your own dynamic "reading lists". All you need is a regular del.icio.us account. Yep, I like the idea of Grazing the Web. So, "Reading Lists" then, short lists of feeds someone finds interesting, that may change over time and are made public. They're promoted as being OPML things, but the idea's just another nice little app of data sync a la syndication. OPML sucks, but (as with RSS 2.0) if people are using it, and providing usable data* in this form it would be churlish to ignore it. Ok, a quick way of collecting a list of resources is to use del.cio.us through its bookmarklet.
So I'll find a few feeds (the feeds, not the blogs) and tag them "readinglist". Now right away there's an RSS 1.0 feed available at: In it are item resources, the feeds I've chosen. In the RDF world this would be enough, and all the other metadata would be immediately available too. RSS is XML, so XSLT is available. Blogroll Powered by Google Reader. Update (November 7): Google Reader implemented the feature described in this post. Bloglines has a feature that lets you automatically create a blogroll from the feeds you've subscribed to. This way, you don't have to maintain your blogroll because it's permanently in sync with your subscriptions. "On many blogs, there are lists of links to other blogs. These lists are called blogrolls. You can incorporate your Bloglines subscriptions into your blog, as a blogroll, by including a small piece of HTML that loads a script from Bloglines. " Many people want the same feature in Google Reader, but don't know it's already available, albeit not in a transparent way. 1. 2. 3.
Then enter the link below and click on "Build". 4. I've also included an option to save the blogroll as an OPML file that can be easily imported in most feed readers. Related:Customize Google Reader's clips.
