Forum Archive - How to convert .flv (flash video) to .avi or .mpg Some sites have flash video’s online that play in your browser, if you have the correct plugins. Thanks to Veblin, I learned that these video’s are stored on your HD (most likely the Temp Internet Files), and that they (sometimes) have the .flv (FLash Video) extension. The .flv files play fine in the latest VLC player (v 0.81) or a dedicated FLV player like wanted to try to convert to avi or mpg and could not find a guide on videohelp, so I did some research of my own. This is A way, it worked for me, and I would like to share it with you (helping this fine board to help others).I use the RivaFLVencoder; which is freeware and it’s based on the FFMPEG encoder (normally it is used to create .flv files from .avi or .mpg, but it can do the reverse too). There is also FlixPro by Wildform, but that costs about $150. Download, install and open Riva.

The first look at Photo Story and Movie Maker in Windows Vista - PapaJohn's Newsletter Archive The first look at Photo Story and Movie Maker in Vista build 5270... Vista has some new visual effects... including translucent glass or plastic frame edges for the windows, and the Window Switcher, where your mouse wheel flips the open windows in one direction or the other, while each window continues on in real time. For a warm-up... click the picture of the Switcher at the left or use this link to a video showing it in action. The open windows in the video include a project in Movie Maker, the importing wizard capturing footage from my camcorder, my website, the video of a visualization playing in Windows Media Player 11, posts to newsgroups and forums, and the Task Manager reporting CPU and memory usage. This newsletter is an overview of what I see in this build of Vista, as it pertains to Photo Story and Movie Maker. I'll point out new features, what works, and what doesn't... with the understanding it's pre-beta software, not even close to a finished product. Notes... Capturing Video

Imagine a library containing 25 billion documents but with no centralized organization and no librarians. In addition, anyone may add a document at any time without telling anyone. You may feel sure that one of the documents contained in the collection has a piece of information that is vitally important to you, and, being impatient like most of us, you'd like to find it in a matter of seconds. How would you go about doing it? Posed in this way, the problem seems impossible. Most search engines, including Google, continually run an army of computer programs that retrieve pages from the web, index the words in each document, and store this information in an efficient format. One way to determine the importance of pages is to use a human-generated ranking. Google's PageRank algorithm assesses the importance of web pages without human evaluation of the content. How to tell who's important Computing I . . if .

John Agard - Intro This is a poem about asserting your identity against others who would ‘bring you down’. John Agard was born in Guyana in 1949, with a Caribbean father and a Portuguese mother (he is of mixed race). In 1977, he moved to Britain, where he became angry with people who referred to him as ‘half-caste’. The poem’s content starts by sarcastically ‘apologising’ for being half-caste – ‘Excuse me standing on one leg I’m half-caste’. The next section of the poem argues that mixing colours in art, weather and symphonies does not make a half-thing When he says: ‘Yu mean when Picasso mix red an green is a half-caste canvas’, he is arguing that mixing colours is a GOOD thing, and makes things better! He then writes how he must be able only to listen with half-a-ear, look with half-a-eye, offer us half-a-hand, etc. – a sarcastic, even angry, denunciation of the word ‘half’ in ‘half-caste’. As for the poet’s feelings, in early recordings of the poem, Agard sounds angry and bitter. My feelings

The Anatomy of a Search Engine Sergey Brin and Lawrence Page {sergey, page}@cs.stanford.edu Computer Science Department, Stanford University, Stanford, CA 94305 Abstract In this paper, we present Google, a prototype of a large-scale search engine which makes heavy use of the structure present in hypertext. 1. (Note: There are two versions of this paper -- a longer full version and a shorter printed version. 1.1 Web Search Engines -- Scaling Up: 1994 - 2000 Search engine technology has had to scale dramatically to keep up with the growth of the web. 1.2. Creating a search engine which scales even to today's web presents many challenges. These tasks are becoming increasingly difficult as the Web grows. 1.3 Design Goals 1.3.1 Improved Search Quality Our main goal is to improve the quality of web search engines. 1.3.2 Academic Search Engine Research Aside from tremendous growth, the Web has also become increasingly commercial over time. 2. 2.1 PageRank: Bringing Order to the Web 2.1.1 Description of PageRank Calculation Vitae
