Global Anatomy Home Page. Endocrine System | Endocrine Awareness Center for Health. The body’s internal environment is monitored and regulated by a chemical communication network. Working alongside the nervous system, endocrine glands produce hormones that control and coordinate many bodily functions. These hormones regulate the body’s growth, metabolism, sexual development, emotional responses and mental processes. The major glands of the endocrine system are the hypothalamus, pituitary, thyroid, parathyroids, adrenals, pineal, ovaries and testes.

The pancreas is also a part of this system; it has a role in hormone production as well as in digestion. Hormones are powerful chemicals that work by altering the activity of their target cells. The hormone does not initiate a cell’s biochemical reactions, but adjusts the rate at which they occur. Endocrine cells secrete their hormones into the fluid surrounding them. Although hormones come into contact with essentially all cells of the body they produce an effect only on certain cells called target cells.

Weight Issues In Wrestling NCAA ResponseThe ProblemThe SolutionsConclusionsReferences What do Billy Saylor (19 years old) at Campbell University in North Carolina, Joseph LaRosa (22) at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and Jeff Reese (21) at the University of Michigan all have in common? They are all dead now, victims of one of the ghastly secrets of college wrestling. All three boys were engaged in dehydrating practices trying to lose weight in order to qualify for their first college-wrestling matches. I have previously hinted that intermittent fasting sidesteps the issues associated with stubborn body fat. Indeed I rarely find any need for advanced strategies to rid my clients of stubborn body fat. I will soon tell you why, but first let me give you some background information to what I'm talking about here. What is stubborn body fat? Stubborn body fat refers to areas of the body that hold on to fat the longest. How come these areas are stubborn in the first place? After you eat, insulin and fatty acids are elevated. One way of measuring this is via the respiratory quotient (RQ).

As the hours go by and the nutrients from the meal are done being absorbed, RQ drops in conjunction with insulin. The catecholamines travel through the blood and bind to receptors on fat cells. Now here's the critical difference between regular fat and stubborn fat: regular fat have a lot of beta-2 receptors in proportion to alpha-2 receptors. Gluten Free Protein Bar Recipe | Gluten Free Recipes - Elana's Pantry. For the past few months, I have been playing around with power bar recipes. When I’m on the go, I want to grab something that is packed with nutrition, not too sweet and plenty tasty. I’ve made this power bar recipe a bunch of times now and my taste testers (that would be my husband who is a very direct and rather stringent critic) have given it their official seal of approval (that would be eating an entire tray in two days flat).

When I saw Heidi’s video on power bars yesterday, I knew it was time to go ahead and post mine. For those of you who are not yet familiar with Heidi, I have mentioned her here a few times. I love her power bar video –her voice is so soothing and the content so tranquil that it might put you into a trance.
