Sex Pistols. The Sex Pistols were an English punk rock band that formed in London in 1975. They were responsible for initiating the punk movement in the United Kingdom and inspiring many later punk and alternative rock musicians. Although their original career lasted just two-and-a-half years and produced only four singles and one studio album, Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols, they are regarded as one of the most influential acts in the history of popular music.[1][2] In January 1978, at the end of a turbulent tour of the United States, Rotten left the Sex Pistols and announced its break-up. Over the next several months, the three other band members recorded songs for McLaren's film version of the Sex Pistols' story, The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle. Vicious died of a heroin overdose in February 1979. History[edit] Origins and early days[edit] The group had been rehearsing regularly, overseen by McLaren's friend Bernard Rhodes, and had performed publicly for the first time.

Welcome | Sex Pistols | The Official Website. Steve Jones (musician) Stephen Philip "Steve" Jones (born 3 September 1955) is an English rock guitarist, singer and actor, best known as guitarist and founding member of punk rock band the Sex Pistols. Jones was born in Hammersmith, London, where he grew up with his young mother, who worked as a hairdresser, and his grandparents. He then moved to Benbow Road in Shepherd's Bush. He was an only child and his father, Don Jarvis, an amateur boxer, left when he was two years old. With fourteen criminal convictions he was the subject of a council care-order and spent a year in a remand centre, which he says was more enjoyable than being at home.

He's also said the Sex Pistols saved him from a life of crime. His early influences were Iggy & The Stooges, New York Dolls, Small Faces, and glam rock icons like Roxy Music and David Bowie. Jones co-founded The Strand (named after a Roxy Music song) with Paul Cook and Wally Nightingale in the early 1970s. The Sex Pistols in Amsterdam in 1977. Paul Cook. Paul Thomas Cook (born 20 July 1956 in Hammersmith, London[1]) is an English drummer and member of the punk rock band Sex Pistols. Early life and career[edit] Later career[edit] The Professionals released four singles and one album (an album of demos surfaced later), but never matched the Pistols' commercial success.

In the early 1980s, Cook, along with Jones, discovered the English new wave girl-group Bananarama. In the late 1980s, Cook surfaced with the group Chiefs of Relief with former Bow Wow Wow guitarist Matthew Ashman, and, after a period out of the music industry, played with Phil Collen in the 1990s. The Sex Pistols, including Paul Cook, played a gig for the 30th anniversary of Never Mind The Bollocks at the Brixton Academy on 8 November 2007. In 2008, the Sex Pistols appeared at the Isle Of Wight Festival as the headlining act on the Saturday night, the Peace and Love Festival in Sweden, the Live at Loch Lomond Festival in Scotland, and the Summercase Festival in Madrid.

Sid Vicious. Sid Vicious, born John Simon Ritchie,[1] later named John Beverley (10 May 1957 – 2 February 1979), was an English bass guitarist and vocalist most famous as a member of the influential punk group the Sex Pistols. Vicious joined the Sex Pistols in early 1977 to replace Glen Matlock, who had fallen out of favour with the rest of the group. Due to intravenous drug use, Vicious was hospitalized with hepatitis during the recording of the Sex Pistols' debut album Never Mind the Bollocks. Accordingly, Vicious' bass is only partially featured on one song from the album.

Vicious would later appear as a lead vocalist, performing three cover songs, on the soundtrack to The Great Rock 'n' Roll Swindle, a largely fictionalized documentary about the Sex Pistols produced by the group's former manager Malcolm McLaren and director Julien Temple. Vicious' mother had been supplying Vicious with drugs and paraphernalia since he was young and assisted him in procuring heroin late that night. John Lydon. John Joseph Lydon (born 31 January 1956), also known by his former stage name Johnny Rotten, is an English singer-songwriter and television presenter, best known as the lead singer of punk rock band the Sex Pistols from 1975 until 1978, and again for various revivals during the 1990s and 2000s.

He is the lead singer of the post-punk band Public Image Ltd (PiL), which he founded and fronted from 1978 until 1993, and again since 2009. Throughout his career, Lydon has made controversial or dismissive comments about the British Royal Family and other subjects. The band caused nationwide uproar in much of the media, who objected to the content of Lydon’s lyrics, and their antics, which included swearing on live television, in which Steve Jones called Bill Grundy a "fucking rotter". Due to the band's appearance in the media, Lydon was largely seen as the figurehead of the punk movement in the public image[4] although this idea was not widely supported amongst the punk movement itself. Glen Matlock (born 27 August 1956) is an English musician best known for being the bass guitarist in the original line-up of the punk rock band the Sex Pistols.

Although Matlock is credited as a co-author on 10 of the 12 songs on Never Mind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols, his creative contribution to the band has been disputed.[4] He also continues to make his own records and tour with various bands, including the Sex Pistols. Biography[edit] Matlock playing with the Sex Pistols in 1977. Matlock joined a reformed Faces, playing at the Vintage at Goodwood festival near Chichester in August 2010.[9] In April 2011 he stood in for Mani playing bass for Primal Scream at the Japan Tsunami appeal concert at Brixton Academy in London.

Stone rose to fame in late 2003 with her multi-platinum debut album, The Soul Sessions, which made the 2004 Mercury Prize shortlist. Her second album, the similarly multi-platinum Mind Body & Soul, topped the UK Albums Chart for one week and spawned the top ten hit "You Had Me", Stone's most successful single on the UK Singles Chart to date.

Both the album and single received one nomination at the 2005 Grammy Awards, while Stone herself was nominated for Best New Artist, and in an annual BBC poll of music critics, Sound of 2004[2] was ranked fifth as a predicted breakthrough act of 2004.[2] She became the youngest British female singer whose debut album topped the UK Albums Chart. They are known as the most successful band to emerge from the United Kingdom's 1980s neo-progressive rock scene,[1] having sold 15 million albums worldwide.[2] Line-up and sound changes[edit] History[edit] The Fish era[edit] Formation and early years (1979–1982)[edit] Marillion was formed in 1979 as Silmarillion, after J.R.R.

Tolkien's book The Silmarillion, by Mick Pointer, Steve Rothery, and others. The band name was shortened to Marillion in 1981 to avoid potential copyright conflicts[16] at the same time as Fish and bassist William 'Diz' Minnitt[17] replaced original bassist/vocalist Doug 'Rastus' Irvine an audition at Leyland Farm Studios in Buckinghamshire on 2 January 1981. The group attracted attention with a three-track session for the Friday Rock Show (early versions of "The Web", "Three Boats Down from The Candy", and "Forgotten Sons") and were subsequently signed by EMI.

Fish (singer) Derek William Dick, better known as Fish, (born 25 April 1958, Dalkeith, Midlothian, Scotland) is a Scottish singer, lyricist and occasional actor, best known as the lead singer of the neo-progressive rock band Marillion from 1981 until 1988. According to Fish himself, his nickname originates from the amount of time he spent in the bathtub.[3] On 9 June 2008, Fish embarked on his first full North American tour in eleven years. At each stop, he hosted a pre-show meet-and-greet with his fans. Two days prior, he was interviewed by Vince Font of the progressive rock podcast Prog'opolis, which was aired a week later on The Dividing Line Broadcast Network (DLBN) as "My Lunch With Fish".[6] In 2008, Fish revealed that he would be taking at least six months off from singing due to an "irregular cell growth" in his throat.

This was later determined not to be cancerous. On 20 and 21 October 2012, Fish hosted Fish Convention 2012 in Leamington Spa, United Kingdom. Official Fish site. He was raised in Ireland until he moved to England with his parents in 1969.[1] Kelly's work for Marillion has been singled out for praise by Alex S. Garcia, writing for Allmusic. In his review of the band's album Afraid of Sunlight, Garcia claimed: "As usual with Marillion, the keyboards stand out the most. Kelly is credited with inventing online Crowdfunding to fund the recording of Marillion's 2001 album Anoraknophobia, following on from a fan-funded Marillion tour of the United States in 1997, and pioneered many of the ideas copied by other music artists since.[6] In recognition of this, Kelly was made Co-CEO of the Featured Artists Coalition, an organization which represents the interests of music artists in the digital age.[7] Since 2009, Kelly has also been an elected performer-director of PPL.[8]

Steve Rothery. Steve Rothery (born 25 November 1959) is an English musician. He is the original guitarist and the longest continuous member of the British rock band Marillion, which is the most successful band to emerge from Britain's 1980s neo-progressive rock scene, having sold over 15 million albums.[1] Outside Marillion, Rothery has recorded two albums as part of the duo The Wishing Tree. He announced the release of an instrumental solo album for September 2014. The Who. Doug Sandom. Doug Sandom (often misspelled Doug Sanden; born 26 February 1930) is a British drummer who was the original drummer for the English rock band The Who. During the infancy of the band's career, while they were playing as The Detours (around mid-1962), Sandom, a bricklayer, joined as drummer. However, while the other members of the group were in their late teens, Sandom was already in his early thirties, and the difference in age eventually made him something of an outcast in the group.

His wife also objected to him staying out at all hours of the night.[1] In February 1964, it was discovered that another band was also called The Detours. When the band secured, but failed, an audition with Fontana Records in early 1964, the label's producer, Chris Parmeinter, didn't like Sandom's drumming (encouraged by then manager Helmut Gordon). Biography[edit] Small Faces to the Faces[edit] In 2007, the Small Faces were honoured by Westminster Council with a commemorative plaque placed at what was Don Arden's offices in Carnaby Street, the band's "spiritual home".

Jones himself unveiled the plaque. In a BBC interview Jones said: "To honour the Small Faces after all these years is a terrific achievement. In 2004 The Observer listed the Small Faces' 1968 release Ogdens' Nut Gone Flake one of the "top British albums of all time".[4] The Who[edit] Jones drumming with The Who The Law[edit] The Jones Gang[edit] Guest appearances[edit] Outside music[edit] Outside of music, Jones is a passionate fan of polo.
