My apologies for the technical difficulties today getting this post published. My computer decided it didn’t want to work today. No doubt it’s tired of all this COLD weather too! The first two weeks of our QAL are preliminary lessons. Next week I’ll be covering a couple of methods for making various triangle units, flying geese and the specialty rulers. You can purchase the QAL at any time. Below are some of my recommended tips on improving quilting accuracy that will help you as you create your Delightful Stars quilt.
Piecing Thread For piecing, use a good quality, thin and strong thread such as Aurifil 50 wt. Best Press I pre-wash ALL of my fabric, fat quarters and larger, before it goes into my sewing room. I don’t dry my pre-washed fabric in the dryer, which really helps to reduce the tangles. I use Mary Ellen’s Best Press to add body and stiffness to the fabric before cutting. ¼" Seam Allowance. It doesn’t seem like it would make much difference, but even this tiny amount can really add up over the course of a block, so get in the habit of stitching a scant seam, and your blocks will thank you. 2. 3. 4. Below is a list of 5 Video’s. Each video is on a separate page. Joining pieced strips and keeping them aligned! The fabric pieces you’re sewing together should be cut straight. Double check they are cut as they should be. If you start with pieces that aren’t cut correctly they won’t line up no matter how accurate your stitches are.

This may sound insignificant, but when you put together quilt pieces in this manner, a little adds up to the major inaccuracy in the entire quilt. If the blocks your constructing are off even by a 1/16 inch each, it adds up to as you stitch multiple blocks together.
