Pour mémoire, 4 avions détournés par 19 terroristes membres de l’organisation islamiste s’étaient écrasés sur les tours du World Trade Center à New-York en ce jour tragique, sur le Pentagone, et en rase campagne en Pennsylvanie, faisant près de 3000 morts dont 343 pompiers et 60 policiers.
Un traumatisme psychologique vécu par l’Amérique et par le monde entier en direct, avec l’effondrement en live des Twin Towers de Manhattan, deux heures après l’attaque. The June 7 inauguration of the second section of the elevated park, designed by James Corner Field Operations and Diller Scofidio + Renfro, has doubled the length of the park to one full mile (1.6 km). Cutting an elevated, verdant path through West Chelsea, the High Line now offers doubly abundant opportunities for looking (at the city, at each other, at oneself), moving (aimlessly or purposefully), and gathering (with friends, with strangers, with one's thoughts).
Separated by a chicken-wire fence until this week, the first and second sections of the elevated park now blur seamlessly. Completed two years apart, they were designed as a whole.
