Digital Storytelling

This graphic is created by Tonia and features a wide variety of iPad apps that go with each of the stages of the digital storytelling process. Tonia used the concept of process writing (popularized by Donal Murray) to design this digital storytelling process visual. This process is made up of 7 stages namely :prewriting, drafting, editing, conferencing, revising, publishing, and sharing. If you hover your mouse over any of these stages you will be able to see a clickable button that you can use to access the list of iPad apps for that stage.

I have spent sometime going through the different app suggestions included in this visual and I find them really interesting. Digital Story-Telling. TED talks. Mindmapping

Mind maps enable our minds to visually process information creating thus strong neural pathways to hold the learned information for an extended period of time. I have always used the power of mind mapping both in my personal studies and also with my students in class. With the proliferation of web 2.0 technologies, you no longer have to depend on pen and paper to draw your mind minds, there are now a number of great web tools and iPad apps that you can use to create mind maps.

Also the benefits of using mind maps are multifarious. Here is a great mind map which highlights 6 benefits of mind maps. Photographs taken by J.C. Burrow show Cornish miners digging for tin in 1890s. Photographs taken by J.C.

Mapping London's 'Tube Tongues'

Step out at the Oxford Circus stop in London and your ears are immediately assaulted by several different languages at once. That's understandable, considering Oxford street is usually quite crowded—tourists and Londoners alike buzz in and out of the shops and restaurants the street is known for. One of the languages I heard most in that region was French. I thought this was because, in general, London has the most French nationals living there of any other city outside France. A more targeted review shows it's also because a lot of French speakers live in that area. Canvanizer - Photos de couverture.

Feast Your Eyes on This Beautiful Linguistic Family Tree. 552K 18.4KShare337 When linguists talk about the historical relationship between languages, they use a tree metaphor. An ancient source (say, Indo-European) has various branches (e.g., Romance, Germanic), which themselves have branches (West Germanic, North Germanic), which feed into specific languages (Swedish, Danish, Norwegian). Lessons on language families are often illustrated with a simple tree diagram that has all the information but lacks imagination.
