Banned Books Online

List of books banned by governments

Book censorship is when a book is removed from the shelf of a library. It can be enacted at the national or subnational level, and can carry legal penalties for their infraction. Books may also be challenged at a local, community level. As a result, books can be removed from schools or libraries, although these bans do not extend outside of that area. Similarly, religions may issue lists of banned books – a historical example being the Roman Catholic Church 's Index Librorum Prohibitorum – which do not always carry legal force. [ edit ] Background

THE FISH HIGHWAY

What is a fish highway? There are some other exstreme fish tank implementations, see SWIMMING WITH SHARKS IN VEGAS & AN ELEVATOR IN A FISH TANK The 'Fish Highway' is not as extreme, but it is still a very unique installation. Imagine a means for fish to swim out the top of your aquarium, up to the ceiling, across the room and then down into another tank. That’s a fish highway. It can be implemented in your own home or business.

This is the modern-day story of a native peoples remarkable victory over Western Colonial power. A Pacific island rose up in arms against giant mining corporation Rio Tinto Zinc (RTZ) – and won despite a military occupation and blockade. When RTZ decided to step up production at the Panguna Mine on the island of Bougainville, they got more than they bargained for. The islands people had enough of seeing their environment ruined and being treated as pawns by RTZ. RTZ refused to compensate them, so the people decided it was time to put an end to outside interference in the islands affairs.

History is not black-and-white...

http://www.wintersonnenwende.com/scriptorium/english/welcome.html Quote of the Week: "Minorities are the stars of the firmament; majorities, the darkness in which they float." Martin Henry Fischer (1879-1962), German-born American physician and author. (earlier Quotes of the Week) In politics and history - two disciplines linked closely by cause-and-effect relationships - there is a mainstream school of thought which is shaped and guided by vested interests such as, for example, lobby groups and the behind-the-scenes forces whose purpose they serve. In either discipline - or in any other subject, for that matter - an incomplete understanding of more than just the officially sanctioned side prevents one from making the correct decisions and drawing informed conclusions.
