Thematic Reports. Modernisation of Higher Education in Europe: Funding and the Social Dimension 2011 There is an urgent need to address the social dimension of higher education more forcefully and coherently, particularly in view of the economic downturn across Europe.

Thematic Reports

This is the conclusion of the new Eurydice report, which looks at national policies on access to higher education, funding and student support. The report, covering EU Member States, plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Turkey, suggests that countries are struggling to adapt their higher education systems to meet the challenges brought about by rapid societal change in recent years. In particular, they need to open up opportunities for more people to benefit from higher education, matching this objective with coherent measures, funding and monitoring to evaluate their impact. Wetware (brain) Wetware is a term drawn from the computer-related idea of hardware or software, but applied to biological life forms.

Wetware (brain)

Here the prefix "wet" is a reference to the water found in living creatures. Wetware is used to describe the elements equivalent to hardware and software found in a person, namely the central nervous system (CNS) and the human mind. The term wetware finds use both in works of fiction and in scholarly publications. The "hardware" component of wetware concerns the bioelectric and biochemical properties of the CNS, specifically the brain.

If the sequence of impulses traveling across the various neurons are thought of symbolically as software, then the physical neurons would be the hardware. With the term getting traction in trendsetting publications, it became a buzzword in the early 1990s. It constitutes a foundation from which software companies can capitalize on the benefits of developing consumer-oriented platforms including hardware, software and services. The material is structured in two parts. Part A introduces the general concepts developed for and applied in the ARM. It is aimed at end users who want to use IoT technologies, managers interested in understanding the opportunities generated by these novel technologies, and system architects who are interested in an overview of the underlying basic models. Information is accumulated on a wide range of human activities, from science and facts, to personal content, opinions, and trends. Across the globe, people’s knowledge, experiences and interactions effortlessly find their way to online outlets, alongside traditional edited content, ready to be shared with millions. LiMoSINe will integrate the research activities of leading researchers across diverse topics with a view to enabling new kinds of language-based search technology. The LiMoSINe vision is to transition access to online information from a document-centric search paradigm focused on returning disconnected atomic pieces to a truly semantic aggregation paradigm.
