What the hell is going on with my government? I’m used to attacks on science; they’ve been endemic for years now. Antivaxxers, global warming deniers, creationists, what have you. And I’ve even gotten used to, at some level, egregiously antiscience rhetoric and machinations from government officials. But over the past few days and weeks things seem to have gone to 11. I’m reeling from the absolute unfettered nonsense and sheer manipulation going on by our elected officials, and I’ll be honest: It’s scary. To start, Rep. This is not a joke. This prompted a brilliantly indignant letter from Rep. In these attacks on the NSF, a few lines of research have been highlighted that sound silly out of context. While government funds science and should have oversight to make sure that funding is fairly granted, the best people to make the decisions about what constitutes good science are the scientists themselves, not agenda- and ideologically-driven politicians.
The list goes on and on, of course. How to Make Friends - It's Harder Than It Looks * Sherilynn Macale (HeyCheri) I used to feel like making friends was incredibly easy. Surprise! It’s not. But then, I guess I never really knew what a “friend” was. Up until recently, my definition for “friend” had been warped due to me not actually having any friends, which is kind of sad when you think about it, especially considering I’ve lived in this fantastic city for a year now and haven’t managed to stumble onto anyone I wouldn’t mind spending time around regularly (though this belief has fortunately changed in the last few weeks or so).
In fact, it wasn’t until a few months ago (when I started working with Identified, actually) that I was even made aware of my troubling situation. That is, my social circle at the time was full of egomaniacal and competitive dicks, with not an actual “friend” in sight. I blame this on myself, of course. Sigh. The Trouble with Trying to Fit In I’m not proud of who I feel I was before, and I’m not proud of the way I ended up treating people because of my own stupid desperation. Skepchick - One man creates 1,360 acre forest. (NaturalNews) Have you ever heard the saying “you have the power to make a difference”? Well, the following demonstrates how one person has proven this. Over 30 years ago, a young teenager by the name of Jadav “Molai” Payeng had an idea to turn a barren sandbar into a thriving oasis.
With this vision in mind, he began planting seeds in this very same sandbar near his birth place of Assam, India. Soon thereafter, Payeng moved to the area in pursuit of fulfilling his dream of one day creating a forest out of land that was left for waste. Over the next several years, Payeng spent many of his hours planting seeds, tending to the land and nurturing the growth. After 30 years of dedication, his hard work had finally been rewarded. The Times India recently sat down with Payeng to discover how his lifelong project had all started.
“It all started way back in 1979 when floods washed a large number of snakes ashore on the sandbar. “The snakes died in the heat, without any tree cover. Sources : Rookie.
