In keeping with my recent goal of using the fabric I have stashed in my closet, and in my ongoing effort to cultivate the love affair I'm having with my sewing machine, last week I went on a search for the perfect winter project. I was not looking for anything difficult or fancy, as that would not fall into the perfect category I had in mind. Instead, I wanted a quick and easy project that would not tax my brain or test my patience - something fun that incorporated color and function. I really didn't know what I wanted to work on. All I knew was that I was in the mood to play.

When I was living in southern Mexico a few years back, there were many things that fascinated me about their methods of agriculture... it often displayed a simple, straight-foward and low energy/resource input methodology. One example of this that fascinated me to no end was the use of a specific type of tree (don't ask the species, I couldn't remember even if faced with a firing squad!), which they planted in the ground and used as fence posts. I remember one too many days as a child installing barb wire fences on our family farm, which required the use of excessive brute force and a pile driver, or a bobcat/tractor. In contrast, the low tech approach to creating a living fence post entailed sawing off a branch from a living tree, and sticking it in the ground.

THE Chocolate Cola cake
I was just introduced to the southern delicacy that is Chocolate Cola cake (aka coca-cola cake) while visiting Charleston, SC early this spring. It was a spiritual experience. It is all that is good and that I hold dear. I’d marry it if I wasn’t already married… seriously. amazing stuff.Who doesn’t love a good salad?! Especially the kind that leaves you wanting MORE and MORE after you’ve taken the *last* bite. This little “salad” reminds me of my sister-in-law, Bobbi Ann…the one who’s recipes I like to steal and claim as my own. Bobbi made this little number for Christmas Eve several years ago and I’ve been making it ever since.

Line Design Explained : Deluxe Edition
I was asked if I could go into a bit more detail concerning the Line Design "process". I think the easiest way is with a few more pictures than my previous post on "how to". I hope this helps...and as always...if you ever have questions about anything on my blog...e-mail me at artwithmre@yahoo.comLine Design w/ Shading- The Steps
Another MNPS art teacher showed me this project several years ago, and I really liked it. I tweeked it a bit here and there, but it is basically as he showed me. The students LOVE IT! I do this with 4th grade, but I guess you could try it with other grade levels. All you need is paper, Sharpie, and colored pencils! Start by drawing a curve line across the paper.Sometimes I think this website should be called, "I Dream of Cake". Because, in a way, it's kinda true. I'm always thinking of ways to make cake.
Boston Cream Poke Cake
I've had this recipe for years. I got it from my co-workers at my second job in The 'Ham. You can make these as individual servings like I do or lay one can of rolls out and top with the sausage mix and then top with the second can of rolls. I like the individual rolls - I can eat more! Sausage & Cream Cheese Crescents (Printable Recipe) 16 oz sausage cooked and crumbled 8 oz cream cheese softened 2 cans of crescent rolls Mix sausage and cream cheese together.
