Embellished Vintage Levis

They both buy original 501s brand new and actually wear them into {in my opinion} ripped perfection rather than buying already distressed jeans. However, once they’re perfectly distressed, they don’t like them any more and send them my way, which is a win win WIN for all of us! While some fit me quite loosely, which I love, for this project I went with a pair that were more fitted through the hips, butt, and waist, though the legs are still pretty roomy. You can see how the baggier pairs fit here, which would work as well, but I think the fitted version is better for this trim. Here’s What You’ll Need… * A pair of vintage Levis or a great fitting pair of jeans. *NOTE: You can use a sewing machine for this project if you prefer. Steps… * Repeat the top step and stitch your trim down the side of your leg. And… Voila! How to Dye a Faded Pair of Jeans.

Six years ago I bought the best pair of jeans of my life.

How to Dye a Faded Pair of Jeans

They were a classic pair of black Gap Straight Fit Jeans that I found from Goodwill with a Fall ’03 label on them. They fit me like a glove, made me feel slim, and hit at the perfect length. Have you ever wondered what to do with an old pair of jeans you really love and that are really starting to look like they should be retired? Well, today I wanted to show you how I dyed my black jeans black again and restored this old pair into something that looks like brand new for less than $5! These jeans were black, but they have faded after a million times in my washing machine. Time to hit the craft store.

I headed to Joann Fabrics and over by the t-shirts and t-shirt decorating supplies is an aisle filled with fabric dyes. Back to black, old friend.

Using Bleach. Waxed Denim. Ever since THOSE waxed skinnies sold out Soph and I have been searching for the perfect alternative.

There are so many things to look for in a perfect pair of jeans. First, there’s the waist. And then the fit in the legs. And then the fabric stretch. And ah man, now you have to choose from boot cut, skinny jeans, trouser cut, straight leg, blah, blah, blah. I’m tall. I usually have to lengthen our pants. Shredded Jeans. What you’ll need Victim jeans, Narrow cutting board or cardboard piece, knife, Vacuum Cleaner Slide the cutting board into the leg – this is to avoid the back side being slashed.

Shredded Jeans

It’s best if you wore the jeans to see where to start slashing. I started just above the knee. Start slashing the jeans horizontally – Do them in sections instead of the whole width of the jean for more destroyed effect. Slash first, then scrape off the denim to reveal the threads. All American Slashed Skinny Jeans. Diamond Leggings. What you’ll need: Cutting board, ruler, white gel pen (or any fabric marker), scalpel or fabric scissors, pattern, victim leggings, and about five bucketload and a half of patience.

Diamond Leggings

I was going to explain how to do the maths of the grid, till I realised I don’t know past addition and subtraction. Print out the pattern on heavy paper. Cut out only the grey area and discard cutouts. Using the template, turn the leggings inside-ou and mark pattern where you wish to cut. Using scalpel or scissors, cut out the pattern. Repeat for both legs (Actually, I tried it on when I was done with one leg and that was pretty dang cool too. Fabric tips: I chose a elastic/semi-shiny leggings… Well, If you want to add another 5 hours sealing off the edges with a candle, don’t get them.

Too much elasticity may end up in making the diamonds look like round holes which is just a glorified fishnet. Edgy grommet leggings. Supplies: leggings yards of grommet trim DIY instructions: Try leggings on and place a safety pin where you want the slit to go (don't go too high).

Edgy grommet leggings.

For me I wear longer tops with leggings so about mid thigh is good. Then cut down the middle of the leggings to that point (just the front side). Pin the whole trim all the way around with ends at the bottom. Sew... all the way around. how it will look... Lace up string starting at the top. Ladies, these are meant to be fun and edgy...that's what fashion is all about!
