Which countries match the GDP and population of America's states? IT HAS long been true that California on its own would rank as one of the biggest economies of the world. These days, it would rank eighth, falling between Italy and Brazil on a nominal exchange-rate basis. But how do other American states compare with other countries?
CNN.com's "Home and Away" initiative honors the lives of U.S. and coalition troops who have died in Iraq and Afghanistan. The extensive data visualization project tells the story of where and how the lives of these troops began and ended. It includes their name, hometown, age, military unit, photograph if available and a narrative of where and how they died. "Home and Away" also includes a place for the audience to share tributes via iReport, CNN's user-generated news community.
